Posted by CarlosM on Jun-21-2002 06:31:

WHAT??.. I just have bought mine at chemical. is on Perfecto records, does yours is on perfecto records??, I hope mine wont cut of, maybe u have a bad pressed Vineyl, or maybe all of them are bad pressed., if someone has the same problem, post it here.

conspiracy theory

I've got the same vinyl. The track is a bitch to mix into and out of.
Oakey has expressed displeasure with this remix, maybe he fixed it so that the released version of it is so hard to mix that most DJ's just won't bother, thus the mix doesn't get heard too much.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid.
Or maybe I'm just a bad DJ.

Well, i have heard before that is hard to mix, But the question is: Does your Record cut off very early in the Tiesto Rmx, I mean is cutted of even when the Vocals are Singing?

Posted by Great Outdoors on Jun-21-2002 17:41:

And I thought I was the only one with the problem..

Mine starts to fade off soon after the vocal ends, about 16 to 32 beats after the last hint of vocal. That's not a very long time to mix in a new track. Worst thing is, how do you do a transition with a bassline that's going softer and softer!

Confused YES this IS a conspiracy theory!!

Yeah there's another thread about this lol!!! Some good information in it, check it out. Should be further down the page.

Actually I don't find this track difficult to mix into at all - it's just difficult to mix out of because of the cut-off. Speaking of which...

No. It's structured like this (this is purely from memory as I'm at work now):

After the last major breakdown in the track, the main part starts up again (it's really beautiful here but anyway let's talk analysis shall we). It lasts for 4 phrases (what I call phrases - 4 beats to a bar, 8 bars to a phrase -> 32 beats per phrase, so 4 phrases are 128 beats), as per the standard trance (4/4) formula. However, at the fourth phrase the beat dies down for that phrase, so it's like a mini-breakdown. After that the beat comes back but there is no singing. This lasts for 2 phrases (64 beats) before the music *SHARPLY* fades out. Actually it starts fading a bit before the second phrase ends, so if you're still mixing at that point it will sound awkward with the music fading out.

What I'm experimenting now is to start mixing in at that little "mini" breakdown, following the 3 phrases after the last major breakdown. Then when the beat comes in again I make sure to reduce the volume of that channel otherwise it sounds like the song is coming back. After all, it really is an unnatural point to mix in at.

Now, what's actually supposed to happen is that the beat lasts for 2 phrases after that "mini" breakdown. After that the beat continues but the music tones down a little. Also the vocals pop in again at that point. HOWEVER it's the perfect place to start mixing out.

Unfortunately the song doesn't make it that far. I'm really really annoyed at Perfecto for truncating this awesome track in this fashion. It's really a low, low blow.

You know I'm sort of believing that. Otherwise I don't see much sense in this entire thing.

Posted by J-PAX on Jun-21-2002 20:53:

That's the wierd thing. I know it sounds pretty absurd but I wouldn't put it past Oakey and his ego. It's a shame really...

Does your vinyl cover have all red and have a black painted manequin on it?

Yes, and with white/black stripes on the back. It's the Perfecto release.

Southern Sun has also been released on the label "MAVERICK" with all the remixes including Tisto's. Is this Tisto remix on MAVERICK also cut off like the one on PERFECTO or is it the full (good) version???

Anyone know??

Posted by Great Outdoors on Jun-22-2002 16:54:

Sucks. If anyone told me Oakey was behind this then I would believe him. By the way Ready Steady Go sucks.

Woah, really? I had no clue about this whatsoever. Do you know when this was released?

Posted by MEESIO on Jun-22-2002 17:05:

It was released on the 18th of june.
Only-djs.com has it in stock but they didn't post audio samples yet
so I'm waiting for them to post them so I can check if it's the full version of the Tisto remix.

Posted by Davidus on Jun-22-2002 17:47:

I must not have same version you guys have. I have a double record set with the original and sabata breaks mix of southern sun and ready steady go on the first disc. The second disc has the tiesto and the gabriel & Dresden mix of southernn sun. I'll agree in saying that it is a bit difficult to mix out of, but mixing into it is pretty easy for the most part.

Posted by gefloc on Jun-22-2002 18:27:

@Davidus: Thats the Maverick releas meesio is talking about.. does Tiesto Mix fade out after 8min something or is it full 9:50

Posted by bodhichitta on Jun-22-2002 19:48:

Yes indeed I'd like to know as well!

Posted by MClarke on Jun-23-2002 12:15:

hunt around for the promos or testpressings as they do not have this problem. I have a TP and it is hard to mix but it does not have this problem and is the one tiesto and everyone uses.
Dotvinyl had some i dont know if they still do

Posted by BChandler on Jun-24-2002 02:31:

MIne sux too

This shit is worthless to mix out. I need some outro beats.

Posted by Davidus on Jun-24-2002 13:22:

gefloc: the version i have is the full 9:50 and doesn't fade out. the version i have is probably similar to Mclarke's. The cover says Perfecto TP mailout. Hope this helps. I got this off of ebay about 3 weeks ago......

Yeah that's right, I always mix it at this point and it's not so difficult...

I got the perfecto release also, but I didn't noticed a problem at the end (maybe I was too high to notice when I listened til the end ) I will check tonight

Posted by DJSoundWave on Jun-25-2002 19:19:

i got mine from only-djs.com and its exactly the same and does cut off,
this is because its the non-promo version, god knows y theyve done this but it doesnt fade out on the promo, it kinda pissed me off cos its piss to min into something but really hard to mix out.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Posted by DJSoundWave on Jun-25-2002 19:21:

btw my "fade out copy" is on perfecto recrds but had a red cver with a weird woman posing on the frount

Posted by Dj Thy on Jun-25-2002 19:50:

Yeah that's the Perfecto release everyone is talking about.
Only-DJ's had (not anymore) another copy on the "Maverick" label. This one also has the Sebata Breaks mix and the Solar Stone Chillout mix.
I might still get my hands on that Maverick release. When I do, I'll be able to tell if it also cuts out.

Posted by MEESIO on Jun-28-2002 10:48:

Thumbs up

I bought the Maverick release today! Found it at my local recordstore... and YES it does include the full Tiesto remix!!
(9.47 min)
Now i have 2 copies of southern sun...
anyone wonna buy a perfecto release of southern sun??
