Any of you willing to trek down to New York for Electronic Zoo festival?

Thinking of going for a few days with some friends as an end-of-summer thing. I live in Toronto, I want to know the cheapest way of getting down there. Assuming none of us can drive, would bus be cheaper than plane? I've heard of cheap deals for both, but after doing some research, bus would be around $100 both ways while plane would be $140.

We're also skeptical on places to stay. We're probably going to end up going to a hostel, but if any of you have experience in New York, please recommend me a place that's inexpensive!

For those unaware,

Pretty dece lineup, I saw Armin at Contact and definitely wouldn't mind seeing him again!

If you are going for Armin there is a VERY good chance he will be at Labour of Love in Toronto, along with a few other trance DJs.

That's awesome, I'll check that out for sure, do you know when it is? I don't go to school in Toronto. Would it be around late August again?

The reason why I want to go to NYC is because a lot of my friends from high school and I all go to different universities across Ontario. We've been planning to go on a roadtrip like this forever, but haven't gotten to it due to conflicting schedules, school, work, etc.

Early September is pretty much when we're all free to do stuff, with university the next week. Armin would be great, but I'm excited to see a great number of DJs on the lineup (Ferry Corsten, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, Menno de Jong, etc.)

Thanks for the reply!

Labpur of Love is always Labour Day weekend - this year it will be September 6th.

Heres the line up for the past two years - should give you an idea of what the party is like.

If you dont want to spend a ton this is the way to go... but a trip down to ny with friends would be good times indeed.

I would love to go to electronic zoo but unless our dollars even out it's going to be way to expensive.

Although the economic situation is pretty volatile everywhere you look, most of what I've read says that the Canadian dollar is expected to continue appreciating for now. I wouldn't worry too much about that. However, it will still be really expensive considering it's New York.

I actually think I may be in NYC on this particular weekend.

The cost of visiting NYC has actually come down quite a lot. If there was a time to visit NYC for those who are budget concious it would be now.

Flying there is about 60% of the cost it was this time last year and it is much easier to find hotel deals.

To the original poster... I have heard the hostels are not too bad. Play with your numbers. If there are 4 of you going you should be able to find a decent apartment or hotel room that will sleep 4 people for $200/night. I just did an expedia search and there were a large number of 3 stars available for $175/night pre tax.

It is only $275/CAD a night to stay at the Waldorf Astoria. We wanted to stay there one night last year just to see it and we could not get a rate cheaper than $500/night.

I find if you are trying to go on a budget taking the bus down and flying home works the best. I favor the overnight bus. The trip is 10 hours there are only a few stops (the border and buffalo). You will be in NY first thing in the AM.

true story. I fly back and forth to Toronto every year, sometimes 2-3 times a year. My flights this year are probably half of what I paid the last few summers!

Thanks for this informative post! We were actually thinking the three of us, and were discussing this yesterday. We decided we would probably prefer a motel and split it three ways. It would be great to stay at a place like the Waldorf but we're trying to save as much as possible, since of of the guys pays for his own university tuition, and we're fine getting by on the minimum.

The 'rough' plan so far would be to arrive on the Friday before the festival and spend time in the City for a day, but now that you mention the overnight thing, it's something we'll think about. I just don't know how well I can sleep on the bus and spend a whole day at an event like Electronic Zoo.

I think she might have the hottest ticket in town. lol

Jyeatbvg - I just checked out the megabus site and the cheap trips appear to be all sold out. It might be worht the extra $50 to just fly both ways.

It should be a fun weekend in NY. I have said it once and I will say it again. Made knows how to throw a good party.
