Question Production Questions for Sean Tyas

Sean Tyas is presenting a 2 hour question and answer session on production tonight at a local Apple store in Seattle. I will be attending and wondered if there were any questions any of you might have for Sean. I will take them with me tonight and ask them and write back his response. I leave in about 6 hours so post them in this thread as soon as possible. I should have thought to post this earlier in the week but I didn't think of it until this morning.

How random. Ask him if he's ever going to use anything else than his virus or the synths that come with Logic. But don't tell him I'm the one who wants to know. hah

He's pretty popular, but are there really going to be that many people there? In Seattle, none the less ... How did you hear about this?

You are right the turnout will most likely be small but I really don't know what to expect until I get there. There is a small group of us here in Seattle that are friends with Sean so my friend Chris, AKA Channel Surfer who you might know from the remix of Sean's One More Night Out, asked Sean to put this on and Sean agreed. Sean is here for a show which takes place a few hours after this presentation. This is a rare opportunity for someone on Sean's level to agree to do something like this, especially since its purely out of the goodness of his heart.

Here is the thread with details for anyone near Seattle that might want to attend:

I have a question:

What is your original tracks started/completion ratio ?

If that makes sense.

Like how many tracks does he start compared to how many does he start and actually finish?

That is a good one. I know I have plenty of throw away tracks that will never see the light of day due to being incomplete and having lost all interest in them.

Also his amount of time from start to finish is a good one as well.

Ask if Seven Weeks actually took Seven Weeks to do and if that's where the name came from...

exactly, remixes for other artists cannot be taken into consideration though.

Oh, one that I'd seriously like to know ... what synth did he and Simon Patterson use for the massive after-breakdown bassline in Something's Up ?? Be sure to ask him that one ...

Good one. Would like to know this myself.

How tracks has he made as a producer? What other genres has he produced besides trance?

Posted by orTofnChiLd on Jun-19-2009 20:10:

ask him if he likes unicorns

Posted by LENG on Jun-20-2009 01:18:

did he have any musical training before?

Posted by vikernes on Jun-20-2009 01:42:

Ask him if he thinks the TA admins and staff should make the website's and forum's logo green in support of Iranian people? Like the website www.thepiratebay.org ?

I don't know, maybe ask him how long does it take for him (on average) to produce a track and what was the most time he spent producing a track. Maybe then I'll feel good about myself. Or not.

I believe the answer to that is no. He did go to art school in the USA, but attributes it to nothing.

ask him how he manages to produce SO MANY tunes, and they all sound the same... truly amazing

also, he was a engineer before he became a solo producer i'm pretty sure, so i think he must have some musical background before he became a trance headliner...

really nice guy too, ask him out for a beer

He must have seen these arguments and thus made Seven Weeks. It's quie different from any of his other solo works ...

How did he develop the Sean Tyas(TM) sound and how long did it take him to find that style?
