2009 Wimbledon

it is day two of the championships. in about a fortnight roger federer will make history, again. it is very unfortunate nadal had to withdraw. can't say too surprised though, i've always thought he would wear himself out eventually. hopefully for him he comes back somewhat the same but who knows, knees are serious business. anyhow, although i think roger will win, i actually want andy murray to get his first major there.

on the ladies' side, venus or serena will take this. venus is the greatest grass court player of her generation and serena is arguably the best player in the world, don't see anyone really challenging them if they play their game. safina should win a major but she won't win it on grass nor do i think she will make it far during this tournament.

oh wimbledon! my favorite sporting event of the year

I'm glad Nadal had to pull out, Roger has a better chance to win

As for the ladies, I hope Venus beats Serena in the final.

As much as I'd love to hate him for being so good, I really really like Roger Federer. Guy seems a class act, and there's literally nothing in tennis he can't do.

Aye, I didn't care for him too much in the beginning, probably due to the fact that he's just so damn superior (like you said). But he seems like such a great guy that I can't but like him

on a somewhat related note - us open ballperson tryouts are this thursday at the USTA

have to put my token post

anyone but Roddick

no nadal, it has to be the year of murray. He won't have a better chance to win than this.

Posted by Dervish on Jun-23-2009 21:15:

I don't know about Murray winning this year, too much pressure. It's like he is "expected" to win this year because Nadal is out.

Has a chance though.

Well, grass is not exactly his favorite surface to play on.
Good for him that he's gonna retire after this year.. but sad for me

i would love to see federer win it! its gonna give him the record for most grandslams and a much needed boost of moral against nadal whenever he comes back

Safin is my favorite player. It's a shame he never lived up to his potential.

agreed but he just didn't want it enough. i mean the guy still has time but he's retiring at the end of the year. if he truly loved tennis as much as someone like federer or nadal he would play until he couldn't do it anymore.

loving the wimbledon, its good that the weather here in the uk is doing so well, we may even see a wimbledon without the rain! Dance4Life is supporting Andy Murray

I want Tsonga to win. If not, then I'm okay with either Murray or Federer winning. Roddick too.

For girls, I always like seeing Sharapova and Ivanovic play.

Posted by Frenkieee on Jun-24-2009 14:33:

Roger and Ana for the win.

Roger leads by 2 sets to 0 against Garcia-Lopez, who's playing quite well actually, but Roger just ain't from this world.

well maria is out and ana is set to meet venus in the round of 16. chances of ana winning this are close to zero. i do like tsonga though, he got to walk through to the third round which is nice

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Jun-24-2009 16:22:

lol Sharapova.

French Open finalist Soderling in a bit of trouble right now down 1 set. we'll see what happens with him

Azarenka looks like a very strong candidate to win it all.

Fernando Verdasco def. Kristof Vliegen 7-6(3) 6-7(3) 7-6(4) 6-4

Damn, I wish I would have seen this match.

Safin likes to enjoy life too much, can't blame him for that. And mentally he didn't have what it takes to truly live up to his potential.

he does but wouldn't it have been great if he dominated the game for a bit of time right after winning the us open? either way it wasn't meant to be but disappointing way to leave his last wimbledon. i hope he does relatively well at the us open though since it will be his last hurrah. maybe his sister will even win a major there...

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Jun-24-2009 17:41:

We all know Safin has a ton of talent, and could have dominated the circuit for a good number of years, but I think he just boils down to his confidence level and commitment to traveling non stop throughout the year. It seems Safin wasn't feeling right about being a professional tennis player.

Posted by Nostalgic on Jun-24-2009 17:46:

It's ridiculous how slow grass courts have become.

i really wish the towels wouldnt be $40. i just cant bring myself to spend that much on a single towel.
