Rob Papen - SubBoomBass

So, this new synth from Rob Papen has recently been released. Has anyone got it yet? or tried the demo?

I have the demo on a Music Tech DVD to try out when I get back home tonight. If you haven't already guessed it, this synth specialises in the lower frequencies and with a title like that, it must be good .

I'm sure most people on here are fans of Rob Papen synths, so anyone else wanting to check this out?

Fledz, you have got it haven't you?

Nothing that a carefully tweaked sine couldn't do for EDM low bass area in other synths from what I've heard from the demos on Rob Papen's site tbh.

I haven't got round to playing with it yet, but I am curious to find out what's supposed to set it out above the rest regarding bass synthesis, maybe it's the "wave-sequence" thing they are advertising.

The sound engine isn't exactly new as it's based on the Predator one, not that that's a bad thing of course.

When you do, I'd be delighted if you'd share the results. Cba fooling around with demo versions and not keen on spending cash on something that's just a bit hyped.

Sure, I'll see what I can do over the weekend.

After playing around with the demo for a few weeks, I picked this up a few weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with it so far. While there really isn't anything totally new about this synth and it doesn't do anything that you couldn't do in many other "conventional" synths, I really do like the sound of it and the way that it is laid out and customized for bass sounds. It has all the features that you'd want in a dedicated bass synth and it can really get thick sounding, particularly with the sub-osc's, unison, etc. I actually haven't been through too many of the presets, but what I have heard ranges from bread-n-butter off-beat basses to wild, out-there basses to synth kick drums. The price is decent for what you get IMO. The only thing I don't care for so far is the cartoonish GUI, but it's not a big deal and hopefully somebody will re-skin it someday. Some people will surely be put off by the SynchroSoft protection, but I've already got numerous other dongle-protected apps/synths, so it doesn't bother me.

Predator and I are having an Affair. +1 for Papen, I will check this out.

i've not heard this so if you can post samples of some basslines so we can here it.

even do an A/B test with other soft synths to see how good it is.

Thanks.

Going to check this out. Predator is by far my favourite synth and t basically makes it in to every project I do.

While this new doesn't sound like it's exactly breaking new ground, I like the thought of going to a snyth and knowing the patches and setup are close enough to my goal to get working.

Actually, slightly off topic, but anyone know some good banks for predator? stuff like arpegiated and complex leads, solid "mid" basses etc.?

The demos on Papens website are nearly as bad as those on that FX Pansion GCAM squad site.

Nothing on there I have'nt heard a zillion times before. Kinda convienient to have a dedicate bass synth maybe though.

This is one of my next purchases. Loved the demo and love everything I've heard from it.

Well, there's several dedicated bass syths so this is nothing new here, just that the papen syths are generally great and IME, relatively bug free.

That could take some time and, since my music production time is already very limited, I doubt I'd get around to it soon. You'd probably be better off just downloading the demo and having access to the full synth. And, like I said, soundwise, there's probably nothing in SBB that you couldn't do with any other capable VA so an A/B would be pointless. But, it's a great price for a Rob Papen synth and it has pretty much everything you'd look for in a dedicated bass synth and a nice selection of filters (same as Predator's, I believe). One thing I will add, though, is that it's obviously a VA, so it's not going to emulate "real" electric or acoustic basses the way a sample-based VSTi like Trilogy/Trilian will.

Yeah, I agree. The mp3 demos kinda turned me off, as do many of SBB's presets. You really need to download the demo and start programming/tweaking to get a real sense of its capabilities and worth, IMO.
