Secrets...

I guess I'm learning that I am really bad at keeping secrets. Why? Because I forget what I'm told is a secret. All I remember is what I'm told.

Like.

GF says, omg, you won't believe what happened. omg omg.

I say, what, what happened?

GF says, I can't even tell you. This is soooooooo bad. Promise me you'll never tell anyone.

I say: Okay. I promise. What happened?

GF says, friend Susie slept with Debbie's boyfriend!

I say, ew, gross, why would anyone sleep with Debbie's boyfriend! He is just so gross.

I am so grossed out by the grossness of the incident that I forget it's supposed to be a big bad secret.

Next time I see Susie, I say, wtf were you thinking? Why would you sleep with him? He actually smells. Ick ick.

Of course, Susie gets upset. How do I know that she slept with Debbie's bf?

blah blah

I suck.

Actually, I was wondering if I'm the only one who has problems remembering when something is a secret...

And then, Joss, you post. And I remember how bad you are at keeping secrets.

I have the same problem sometimes. It's better if the person tells me, "By the way, don't repeat this to ANYONE." Then I get the message. If the person telling the secret doesn't want it to get out, they need to be clear about that when they start yapping!

I keep secrets where it counts. Your secrets usually are far too funny to be a secret in the first place (and usually ones that you are like ?!?? why is that secret?)

eg: you'd tell me you had an apple at lunch and go "but dont tell anyone ok?"

i couldn't keep secrets in the past. a person says "this is just between you and me", then I pass the message to someone else also saying "this is for your information only". as a result, everyone knows the secret but act like they don't. gladly, i have learned to keep secrets some year or two ago

Posted by Zoso on Jul-04-2009 19:35:

That sounds like some spectacular drama. True story?

Posted by :wtf: on Jul-04-2009 19:43:

Idk, I'm just txting my bff Jill.

Posted by Slylee on Jul-05-2009 14:49:

i'm good at keeping secrets because i just forget about them since it wasn't really important to me lol

occasionally i'll blab some lame story that someone told me because they are careless and think i'm their BFF. but if it's someone i truly respect and love and they tell me something major, i'll go to my grave with it.

Posted by chimera66 on Jul-05-2009 15:03:

i don't think someone has to explicitly say "this is a secret" for you to figure out what you can and cannot repeat. i tend to remember what is a secret and if i can't remember if i was told not to say anything or not i just keep my mouth shut

A Sergeant First Class (E-7) is only getting an ARCOM (Army Commendation Medal) and should be getting a BSM (Bronze Star Medal). Me and some of the admin people who process awards were shocked to see that. Also our higher commander, Colonel, saw it too and was also shocked. I guess he must have pissed off his immediate supervisor to only get the ARCOM.

I have wanted to spread that to so many people... but that is mean and catty to spread that sort of thing.

You lucky people are fortunate to hear my gossip.

I gave him the gift the Afgan's gave me yesterday as their instructor of them and their completing of the Artillery course. So little does he know that was a small consolation prize for him getting screwed for his EOT (end of tour award).

ahh.... feels nice... that's off my chest

Posted by Echo of Silence on Jul-05-2009 18:20:

Zoso, no, not a true story.

Yeah yeah, of course if it's a secret told by a good friend or if the confidential information is really important to the person, I don't forget it's a secret. I was thinking more of secrets that seem insignificant or involve unknown people.

Actually, I wasn't thinking. I was just being a postwhore.

Every now and then, I get in one of my goofy moods where I come into cor and create idiotic threads and make idiotic posts. For a bit of time, it amuses me.

I saw a famous tv star in an AA meeting. Because of anonymity, I was supposed to keep it a secret. I think I told one person.

You're a terrible friend. Now please delete this thread bcuz you always do anyway.

Posted by astroboy on Jul-06-2009 00:43:

I never really understood this. I can't believe people need to be told "THIS IS A SECRET DON'T TELL ANYONE". 9 times out of 10 you can use your common sense to figure out that the person might not have wanted you to blab about it, and when that is the case you just err on the side of caution.

... Though admittedly this is more difficult for women who seem to have an innate compulsion to gossip/share information.
