something weird is going on

did anyone notice that something is happening in the society. its like poeple are getting less intelligent. go on cnn.com and read the articles and the headlines. some of the writing is not making sense. even on the local news the reporting is becoming hard to understand. am i the only one that is noticing this.

au contraire mon friend, some humans are born smarter than their ancestors e.g: If your parents were black persecuted men during the apartheid and were lucky enough to survive, this alone, increases the odds of inheriting better survival skills (e.g: working under the pressure, quick decision making).

Bare in mind, the subject of nurture vs nature might trouble that assumption.

I also believe it is technology which has dumbed 'some' people down, of course, it depends on what kind of use you give this 'technology'. We are addicted to data bombardment through the many hours of the day; our brain can only process so much, excess data becomes blurry; a society addicted to 'data', a hazy state of being is not uncommon.

People get less intelligent with each generation? So by that logic, people are less intelligent now than we were when we were cavemen. No. If people don't stimulate their mind with challenges, they become less intelligent. What you probably are seeing is that when affluent societies aren't forced to think for survival, or if they don't choose to push themselves, they will be less intelligent.
And enough with this generalizing Americans. It only shows a lack of awareness of how diverse the USA really is.

It's not that society is becoming less intelligent. More information is being made available to more people. Before the advent of the information age the average Joes never picked up a newspaper in their lives. Now that their social lives have become intertwined with dissemination of information by means of internet, there is an increase in demand for news that caters to this specific type of audience. For better journalism check out NYT.
