Sander K @ Spundae (Ruby Skye)

ha i can't believe there's no thread for this, but all i have to say is sander k opening with pqm - you are sleeping on dvdj with the lyrics projected on the wall made it all worthwhile... the crowd was going ballistic he also played a wicked edit of nick chacona & anthony mansfeld's the heat on dvdj, which got a great response as well. spesh, not a big fan of his to this point, but that was the best opening set i've heard from anyone in a while. gooood times...

I thought his set last night was rather good, but a far cry from when I saw him at WMC. THAT set at the Shelborne Hotel was insanely epic.

The nod to Michael Jackson was a nice touch, when he played that remix of "Rock With You". Plus the remix of Sander's single "This Is Our Night", that sounded cool. I like the original version better.

All in all, I'd see Sander again if he came back.

I've usually enjoyed spesh, but you're right...he KILLED it on Friday. Also, one other major plus...Ruby did their $2 premium drink bar til 11. And from our bartender, it was a LEGIT premium open bar, Jagr/Red Bull, Grey Goose/Red Bull, whiskey coke...all extremely strong and all $2 bucks. However, I learned that too much of anything is not always a good thing. I definitely missed (read: don't remember) about an hour of Sander K's set.

Still, it was great night and it was cool to see some of you TAs out there.

I noticed...before things got hazy for me, I was talking to Rich and he was like: you should say hi to Billy, he's right over here. Rich and I tried to get your attention and you were like "sorry, I've gotta go up there (in the direction of the front of the crowd)...and that was the last I saw of the 72hrpartyanimal. Maybe next time dude.

I realized in the cab home that I left my tab open, so we went back to Ruby on Saturday to pick up the card, but since we were on the GL, we ended up pounding more $2 drinks to start the night and accidently ended up staying there. In hindsight, they should've just kept my tab open the whole weekend.

My first time at Ruby Skye had a blast, and danced my ass off. It was great meeting a few other people from SF and nice seeing you again Billy you had me cracking up all night!

lance you went back saturday huh? how was that?

Posted by Sadface on Jul-07-2009 05:51:

I had a good time as did the group I came with. My only complaint would be that the crowd was way too heavy on striped shirt wearing dbags taking breaks from hip hop clubs. There were way more of them than I remember from any other party there, although admittedly I haven't been to that many (usually only when I can get a free GL). Maybe that's just how it is at Ruby Skye on big nights.

ya there were a lot of collared-shirt dbags in the crowd, many of them trying to molest the girls in our group. i watched this one winner get kicked out 3 times after missing the point all night. i dunno how he kept getting back in, but in the end i saw him talking to cops out front... that was almost as funny as the aggro look on his face while trying to spit game. i know he's never pulled anything with that routine, which makes me wonder why he's so stuck on his game. i guess his purpose in life is to make everyone else look good.

The common response to this is usually being polite or reacting boldy, which in return the dbags get even more aggressive.

So what do I often do? Put them in a situation they won't understand

My friends accept me anyhow so I usually spaz out with a combination of eye twitches, annoying noises and ridiculous dance moves, whatever works to ultimately weird the person out

9/10 times it works not only do they go away and stay away; you get to make your friends laugh at the same time

It's great

We only went for "a few drinks" to pregame cheaply, but I wasn't excited or motivated enough for The End Up or anywhere else, so we ended up sticking around. It got crowded much earlier on Saturday than on Friday, but at the peak, there were probably fewer people than on Friday.

I liked the music, but it was not as much fun as Friday. Again, the opener (I think it may have been Ben or Dean) played great. Dresden went on pretty early, I think it was well before 12. I didn't realize that Dave Dresden was playing any songs with a tech sound...those tracks he played were really good. But, some of his more standard vocal based songs were just alright. We only stayed til 145.

Until last weekend, I'd taken a short break from Ruby (the Danny Tenaglia party was the last show I'd checked out), but one of the summer shows I'm looking forward to the most is Steve Aoki and Joachim Garraud this Friday. I saw Joachim at WMC this past year and he busted out the keytar at an electro party...pretty cool. After this Friday, I'm taking a sabatical from Ruby for at least the next few weeks.

That has been my very same complaint about all of the recent Ruby parties I've gone too. It's rather annoying.

lol i can totally see you doing that too!

there were more girls in our group than guys so naturally all the rejects on that side of the club gravitated towards them for their shot. the girls were laughing and having fun with it so i just made sure they were ok, told them how to get rid of the creepers and carried on into the music. i mean i guess it worked, a couple times...

Spesh had a killer opener. And Sander was good at times but kind of fluff at the end. Thank goodness Syd came on to bang out the closer.

its been a while since Sander has played there. i hope he dug the SF vibe.
