Table suggestions

In a couple of days I will be getting a pair of good, used Technics (m3d's bragbragbrag) and need a proper table to store my entire setup (2x cdj 200's, 2x Technics, numark dxm06, Traktor Scratch duo in the future) and has space for tons of vinyl which I plan on acquiring. I'm also moving into a new place in another month or so, so I figure I should get a proper table for my gear since I've been rocking the dresser for the past 5 years.

Ikea looks like the route to go but I dunno. Suggestions, links, and hints would be helpful. The cheaper the better since I'm a student and don't make exorbitant amounts of money. Thanks

Have you considered getting something custom made? Or is that too expensive in the US?

Posted by Demoted on Jul-08-2009 20:49:

Probably going to be waaaayyy too expensive. I'd like to keep it between $250-300.

Oh, OK. Then I guess IKEA would be a good option then. However, in my experience, it's pretty hard to find a table with the required height to be able to play comfortably. Most tables have a standard height that makes playing standing up very uncomfortable because you have to crouch a bit, which hurts your back.

Not sure about the measurements, but this could work if you don't put those awful metal dividers on top and adjust the shelves below so you can store your vinyl

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90079334

And this one looks just perfect for what you need:

http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/rooms_ideas/vika_09/index.html

You pick your legs and your tabletop and create your own "custom" table. There is a pair of legs that are actually two cabinets where you can store your vinyl. Look at what I came up with, and for only $115.

You could also use one of the white ones in the middle of the pic if you think those work better.

I'm 5'5" on a good day. Keep in mind I'm perma-thirteen-year-old-girl.

Thanks

taken from setup thread

something like that would be ideal. Nothing too too fancy at all, just sorta like that and wide enough for all my shit.

Ted check out this link:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60111123

I have a desk similar to that and used to have two 1200s, a 5000fx, and 2 CDJ800s on it. Worked brilliantly. I had the 1200s on the desk surface and the 800s on that second tier. I may have a photo of it somewhere.

The height of all the platforms are adjustable so you can easily have it at optimal playing height for you.

EDIT:

Bam!

I have two of these:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50103345

They fit my techs and xone:92 nicely. No space for CDJs anymore though. If you want to keep your CDJs, you could get a thrid one.

Also you can't fit any vinyl in there. I'm 186 cm tall and the chest is the perfect height for me. Dunno how it'd suit you though.

Posted by Demoted on Jul-09-2009 11:02:

thanks for the suggestions. I'm actually digging your idea, energy It looks like it has a nice place to put my cdjs if it comes with that little riser in the middle.

I can put my vinyl in milk crates since I only have five vinyls and have just started collecting. It'd be nice with those little box shelves, but I think it'd take me a while to accrue enough vinyl to make any noticeable use out of them.

if you have access to some power tools...this is pretty nice. all used from ikea products

and by access to power tools, i mean simple things such as a drill.

What you want is the Ikea Expedit:

It's made to stand up as shown in the picture, but if you put it on it's side it's perfect for putting decks on the top, and the shelves are the perfect size for vinyl.

Wouldn't that be a bit short if turned on it's side?

Yeah, I have the Expedit as well and I love it. Only like $80 from ikea if I remember correctly. My decks sit in cases so height is perfect, it may be a little short for some (probably not you). I love the little compartments, its perfect for storing records or whatever kind of accessories. I do wish it were a little longer, so I could fit both CDJs and turntables on it.

Posted by Zild on Jul-10-2009 22:33:

That Ikea looks nice but almost a foot too short.

Yeah, now that I look at it it looks a bit cramped. I probably couldn't fit my cdjs on there even though they're only 200's. I'll get it either way though and just stick an end table or something on the side so I can fit my cdjs because otherwise the thing's perfect and the price is right.

AND I GET MY TECHNICS TOMORROW WEEEEE!

excitement looms.

I'm very happy with my console from www.dualsf.com. It was really expensive (about $2500), but I have no regrets on spending the money. We spend a ton on the gear, why not have a comfortable nice looking place to keep it?

because I don't have near enough money atm

but I plan to get something like that in the future.

I also see you've upgraded your MBP.

Yeah... the 17" was too darn big.
