DJs...Jay Haze Needs Your Help!
The following is an article from Resident Advisor

| Getting paid handsomely for your DJ gigs? If so, Jay Haze needs you! If you read our news article about Haze's recent Fabric mix, then you'll already know that he's giving away all of the money he gets from the project to UK charity Merlin Health Services, who are currently providing aid and relief to the Democratic Republic of Congo. His generosity doesn't end there, however, as he'll also be donating 50% of the revenue from any DJ gigs that he plays from September through to the end of 2009 to other groups who "provide health care, medicine, treatment for rape victims and access to clean water for the country's citizens." According to Jay, "1200 people die every day of simple things, preventable things," and he's looking to get other DJs involved in his quest to ease the turmoil for many of the DR of Congo's residents. What he's suggesting, is for any DJ (big or small) to choose one gig this year, and donate half of the money they get from playing it to the victims of the DR of Congo. Already on board are DJ Sneak, Tiefschwarz, Loco Dice and Tiga, but Haze is looking for as many participants as possible, and is appealing for interested parties to contact him by e-mail at djs4drcATjayhaze.com. |

| Thanks for the post! Right now there are many people involved and this list is growing bigger and bigger. The ultimate goal is to reach 500,000 euros. We think this can be accomplished quite easy, if we all put the 'little' work in together. We feel its a good chance to put minimal effort for a greater cause, like helping people who need it more than we do... alot more in fact. We will be making a blog where artists will inform us of times and places where they will be doing their selected gig, this it to help spread the word and encourage more people to get involved. You see its nice to have alot of the big names on board, but really we need many of the lesser known djs to take part, as this is a real grassroots effort, any involvement is special and needed. If people can understand how easy it is to help others if we collectively join together and pitch in.... i think there would be alot more of this going on, which would of course lead to a better situation i am sure! We will be working with an African based charity for this specific cause, as it is surely better to work with people who really know the situation and support and work with locals. It is sometimes the problem with different organizations that they bring their own workers, who sometimes need compensation for their time, but on a European budget, you see? This is about helping people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, not only the people who need the help, but the organizations who need our help so that they themselves can efficiently help. We are not asking everyone to be totally aware of the situation on the ground there as it is a very complex one indeed, but what we ask is that you be passionate about helping people who need it. Please get involved, the correct email address to make contact with me is [email protected] We really hope that all you djs and producers out there can find it in your heart to join in... as we can set a great example, and make more clear what is actually possible! Also, i would like the djs to forget about the money they will give (which BTW you can write off on your taxes) but think of it more as TIME. You will be playing half your set to help people.... We will also be organizing events around the globe in support of the same cause. Dj Sneak will organize one in Toronto, and on October 8th, we will be making a benefit party in London @ TBAR with some very special guests.(100 percent of the profits will go to the cause!) I will try to update everyone with newsletters assuming they make their way to your eyes... We should have our website up shortly. The project will officially begin on September 1st... Please get involved!! |
I was just listening to the fabric CD on the bus. Very very nice funky tech mix - loving it....
Good for him in supporting charitable causes....
Very admirable thing to do. I support this!
good luck to him
This is great. If everything works out, I will be playing in a local club somewhere in September, so I will definitely support if I do.
I wish Jay would donate some decent tracks to the world
