Beautiful Squarepusher Track

I have never heard this before until today while browsing youtube for Boards of Canada'a Echo the Sun, which turned out to be an autechre track which led me to this gorgeous track:

It's very beautiful, although quite simple (especially compared to its sister track Iambic 9 Poetry - which is one of the masterpieces on Ultravisitor - my favourite album of his).

Interesting track. Reminds me of some of the old Aphex Twin tracks in his I Care Because You Do album.

Sorta. The one synth is a BoC synth though. Good track.

Amazing track, not my favourite from him, but definitely one of the better ones on Bilious Paths. Wergle the Proud is very nice - hadn't heard it before, not too keen on the first one but it is very has lush beats and a warm feel to it.

Which autechre tracks do you reccomend - This is probably one of my favourites. My favourite albums being Incunabula and Amber




you can probably tell i really enjoy idm with surreal melodies, i find it tough getting into the likes of Venetian Snares.

Does he have have melodic productions?

wow. I completely forgot about this shit. Great for meditation, chillin out, doing dome work, etc. MOAR!

I'm actually more into later Ae, Confield is definitely my favourite album by them, it brought some major innovations that are (badly) copied even these days. I think I've heard more than 300 IDM albums in my lifetime (and I own around 50), and I can safely say that when it comes to creativity and innovation, nothing can top Confield. Untilted and the newest one are also very good. Not that Incunabula or Amber are bad, actually they are both masterpieces (especially when you consider when they were made), but it seems to me that only the serious development of technology that began in the later half of the 90's allowed Ae to utilize their full potential.

Snares is most of the times ultra fast and frantic, although he can sometimes branch into other territories such as classical breakcore on Rossz Csillag Alatt Sz�letett and My Downfall, which can be kinda mellow but still very crazy. I think the mellowest he went was on Hospitality EP. HERE is his softest track I know of (didn't know how to embed). I'm almost sure you won't like any of his other stuff if you find this too crazy.

This Venetian Snares track is nice, it has structure and I dont mind the ultra fast snares and beats. Some kind of structure in IDM is important for me but I can see how you could get lost in VS's other works with all the different sounds you could probably listen to one layer each time and it wouldnt get boring

So what your saying is that for melodic structured IDM i need to look at circa 1990-1999. But that being said AFX - Crying in your face is a fantastic example of what i look for in IDM and that is pretty recent...

In fact the Analord series has been very accomodating in the fact that he seems to have verged away from some of his crazyiness, which to some people could be a bad thing.....

Have you checked out Chris Clark? He's another artist on Warp, by the style I'd say he's somewhere between Ae and AFX. Not too oldschool, but also not too abstract like newer Ae. His sound is deliberately overcompressed, but that doesn't bother me. Some of his gems:

ooo my friend showed me this a few days ago. That is a beautiful track, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna listen again.

Is this some kind of chillout/experimental? I find it really calm and smooth. It has a specific "character".

"Tommib" got some big exposure from being included on the Lost in Translation soundtrack. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more bootlegs of it.

What a fantastic movie and a great sound track to boot.
Its amazing how sound can truly enhance a movie. Just watched Traffic the other day and Cliff Martinez created a beautiful soundscape which made the movie even better.

The Traffic soundtrack is quite good. Bought it back in 2001 I think. It's also how I first found out about Brian Eno.
