HappyHappy Oh England how I laugh at thee!

quote:
Riot police stormed a man's 30th birthday barbecue for 15 guests because it was advertised as an "all-night" party on Facebook.

Four police cars, a riot van, and a force helicopter were dispatched to a privately-owned field in a small village near Sowton, Devon in the UK on Saturday, ordering the party shut down or everyone would be arrested.

quote:
The event was shuttered under section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which grants police powers to remove persons attending or preparing for a "rave" (defined as playing amplified music "wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats," during the night).

quote:
'I told them it was my 30th birthday. I said "this is a once in a lifetime event for me, please don't ruin it". But they kept on insisting I had been advertising it as an all-night rave on the internet.

'But I'd created an event, and 17 people had confirmed as guests, I did put the times on it as "overnight" in case people wanted to sleep-over.

'They were still banging on saying it was advertised on the internet. They wouldn't accept it wasn't a rave. It was in a completely isolated field.

Fuckin LOL!

In a field? Lol.

30 years old, and the guy couldn't fit 17 people inside his house for a party.

You're right though, it's still rediculous to the point of funny.

They drive on the left, which is the correct side of the road to be driving on.

Two things:

1) Doesn't an officer need to be a friend to see this invite?
2) The world disagrees, Stu.

Hey man, a majority doesn't necessarily make something correct, now does it? You're all just sheep!

At least in the US unlike a lot of other english speaking countries, in our day to day lives we always use imperial (well at least 98% of the time).

The only people that really use metric are the military and other government agencies.

I have heard canadians and brits talk in pounds, kilos, miles, ounces, grams, fluid ounces, liters, or any other combination of imperial or metric, sometimes in conjunction!

The rebel coalition always looked kinda gay in comparison to those of the Imperial forces. Aside from X-Wing fighters, Imperial is superior.

Are you making an argument? I'm confused. Of course you use the imperial system. We all know this.

Most other countries don't use it, and haven't for a long time. Because it's outdated

Yes, well I'm guessing that the military/govt might have to liase with the rest of the world without sounding stupid

Yeah, Australians talk in ounces too. It's still the most common weight that weed is sold in, in larger quantities Though, we all know that 1 ounce of weed is just over 28g

So I guess the US isn't the only country losing its freedoms.

I'd just like to disagree slightly here with India's inclusion. They drive on whatever side of the road they like, both in India and here in the UK too...

It's the correct side of the road to drive on if you have the steering wheel on the right seat

I still think most NATO navies use knots and nautical miles though... I am pretty sure Warsaw Pact navies (aka Russia) and most unaligned and third world navies do still as well. Fuck them, no one uses that but navies and seamen.

He should have had Alan Partridge promote for him:
quote:
Jet from Gladiators to host a millennium barn dance at Yeovil aerodrome. Properly policed. It must not, I repeat not, turn into an all-night rave.

The roads cross over. In the tunnel between England and France the lanes acually cross over and you end up on the other side of the road.
