help!! stylus pressure and anti-skating
just got my first m3d deck. and i follow all the instruction manual.
but still have problem. on the menual it says the toem arm have to balance with record right.but when i do that.my cartridge always skips. that makes me have to add pressure on balance weight?
is that hurting my cartridge?
also what does anti-skating?
plz give me some tips...thanx..
by the way.i am using ortonfon concorde pro silver.
adjust weight on tonearm until it is parrallel with your record, hovering, almost too heavy, allmost too light. then set that with the adjustable ring to zero, and turn the weight until it is at 2. that should work, what mostpeople use. not sure abot anti-skate cause im too lazy to check mine :P
thanx for the advise..
i tried set it at 2.
but will it be too heavy?
my tone arm looks parralle with my record,
but my cartirdige also touched on the record,is that ok?
faint...i just tested it....
i need to put the weight to 3 in order to play smooth for souther sun
if under 3 ,like 2.5 my needle start jumps.
so my question now .........is weight 3 way too heavy??
help plz...
what cart are you using?
i use the ortofon dj 'e' and have my weight at 3 and skating at 2.8 and works fine..
it all depends on the cart your using really.. some are heavier than others... check on the website of your cart for the correct pressures n whatnot...
the antiskating should be at the same value as the stylus pressure...for bedroom dj'ing 2.5 is more than enough (3 is way to much pressure)...remove the stylus protector of your ortofon, balance the tonearm as mikefasssy said; then set the stylus pressure to 2.0 (or 2.25) and the antiskating to 2.0 (2.25)...you can even set both to 1.75 if you just want to listen to some vinyls
and don't forget to adjust the height of your tonearm...the flat part at the tip of your ortofon should be parallel with your record
all i do now is just listening vinyls ,
havent get my 2nd table and mixer yet..
but seems i need to put weight at 3...or the needle start to jump when i play some records.
is there anything i do wrong?
basicly i followed all the instructions, needls paralled with record,
also the tone arm etc...~~
again,i am using ortonfon concorde pro silver. if i use the weight at 3.that will damage my needle fast or what?
thanx again for the help.
Don't be scared to put the weights on too heavy. Vinyl can take a hell of a lot of abuse these days. Too many DJ's get scared about damaging their vinyl and end up having more jumps than the Grand National!
hi Acid Circus,i think u r right!!
i'll just put whatever weight that i feel "right" ,shouldnt be a problem.
now i dont want and to worry about the weight or whatever,
i'll just go enjoy my 12"s.
thanx!!
i find that if i go into a club after another dj, they have usually got a penny stuck to the top of the needle cos there too lazy the try and fix the settings.
So u could try that but mind to hold it down with somthing like bluetack or something like that
