America's #1 Rated Cable News Channel

I offer this without comment:

Posted by Renzo on Jul-20-2009 22:44:

Wow.

"Thank you very much for talking to us" = "Seriously, guys? Who brought this douche on the show?"

Posted by Reza on Jul-20-2009 22:47:

o he'll be fine...
he is a ballet dancer

Posted by Adam420 on Jul-20-2009 22:51:

I wonder if he's gonna get in shit for that

Posted by Renzo on Jul-20-2009 22:52:

By far the worst thing he said

Posted by wotyzoid on Jul-20-2009 23:48:

I hate fox news more then a fat kid hates veggies. It's always a show of 10 redneck republicans ganging up on a liberal. It's vulgar to watch and sickening to my stomach.

that "Taliban saving us the cost of legal fees" thing was a pretty fucked up way of trying to make his point. But uh, are you seriously that outraged at Fox? Why isn't it directed at that tool of a Lt. Colonel? That lady was just asking him what the story was.

The facts are rolling in that the guy was really a deserter... planned it in advance leaving a note saying he was "going to the mountains to find himself," walked off the base with a day's supply of water, and was turned over to the Taliban by some people in a village after trying to get more water from them. Check out this account from a reporter on the ground over there:
http://trueslant.com/pjtobia/2009/0...gdahl-deserted/

From the video... you can't argue with this line of thinking, knowing he is being used as a piece of propoganda:

quote:
On that video, he is collaborating with the enemy. Under duress or not, thats really not relevant. Hes making accusations about the behavior of the military in Afghanistan that are unfounded, saying there are no rules. Hes lying about how he was captured, saying he lagged behind a patrol.

Julie, Ill tell you, any 11 Bravo infantryman will tell you, thats not how it works. In a war zone, any soldier is aware of where all his buddies are. If its a night patrol, youre sure of where the guy in front of you and behind you is. So we know this private is a liar.

Because Fox News seems to consistently get some of the most unintelligent people on the planet on their shows.

Any network that gives Ann Coulter a platform to spew her venom deserves all the outrage they get. Is it any surprise this network routinely has radical right wing nationalists and "strategic experts" on air to say the stupidest shit I've ever heard from any news channel? This video just demonstrates it.

Well this thread is certainly predictable.

Did you expect more people to defend that garbage?

I actually don't see any fault with the what Lt. Col is saying. To the Lt. Col's point, if he is a deserter, I am less sympathetic to his cause. Like the Lt. Col, I will reserve my judgement until all the facts are clear but walking off by himself into the night is stupid. Now he is going to put special forces in harm's way and a lot of resources will be used to get him back.

The problem is not with what he's saying, but how he presented his concerns. If you're somewhat sceptical about the whole thing, and you think the guy is a deserter, cool, feel free to add an observation after you make your point. Had he done that, I'd defend him. The problem is that the guy overemphasised something that has not been confirmed yet.

For Fox's sake, doesn't he know what the word "tact" means!?

Why would any sane American want to desert in Afghanistan? Where the fuck would they go? They're surrounded by insurgents.

I think it is a little extreme. I agree the dude has caused a bunch of resources to be spent, but to say that the guy basically deserves to die?

Posted by Krypton on Jul-21-2009 02:09:

I'm sure that's where he was headed Lira!

I wouldn't go so far as saying they are surrounded by them, as much as people distrusting of Americans.

An American walking around Afghanistan alone. Doesn't it sound a little suicidal?
