Purple Haze - Bliksem

Purple Haze aka Sander Van Doorn - Bliksem

pure sex

I like this, The purple haze alias always manages to create the dark yet uplifting trance. Contrasted with today's trance releases this is as good as gold.

exactly my thoughts, none of the commercial/vocal bullshit. tracks like these are the reason i still listen to trance

Good stuff. Has that same kinda build as "Adrenaline" but a little more subdued.

Posted by Palladium on Jul-23-2009 23:00:

a good remix could make it better

Posted by Armitage on Jul-24-2009 00:25:

should be called 'blumpkin'

Interesting, I recall reading in an interview last year (that was posted here) that SVD had intended to abandon his production aliases, and just release everything under 'Sander van Doorn.'

Not that I'm complaining, for if he does anything particularly good, it's usually when he gets into 'Purple Haze' mode.

Not bad.

Posted by Light The Fuse on Jul-24-2009 02:40:

yeah like this tune - almost just an update of adrenaline. But yeah like this tune

Posted by Domesticated on Jul-24-2009 02:46:

Fucking rubbish. It's just try-hard tech-house, like everything he makes these days.

In fact, a lot of trance producers seem to be obsessed with clicky percussion and white noise shuffle hats at the moment. The point they miss is that tech-house uses these elements because they suit the mood; when used with trance they just sound ridiculous.

Posted by Seppuku on Jul-24-2009 04:59:

I liked some of the older Purple Haze stuff, this isn't too bad. Nothing "tech-house" about it however.

Posted by ToF on Jul-24-2009 05:00:

Decent tune. I'm glad he didn't make it the recent Sander Van Doorn sound. I would have preferred if he made more tunes like Push Off Me and Rush for his Purple Haze alias though. Adrenaline is great too.

if you listen to old old trance (like circa 1992-96ish) youll find that a lot of the percussion in the old classics is very similar - maybe dated but still similar - and its trance

Posted by DarkMemoria on Jul-24-2009 15:14:

Excellent production.

Yes, similar to Adrenaline... but Adrenaline was / still is a great dance floor bomb. Purple Haze guise is pretty reliable for dark moody stuff!

While there are some trance tracks out there that may fit into what you describe, this isn't one of them. Did you even listen to it? This is a trance track, pure and simple. Its a good one too as are all the Purple haze productions because of the moody melody, great percussion and excellent groove.

Absolutely nothing tech-house about this nor does it in anyway sound like its trying to be..

I read that, too. It may appear funny, but he has probably realized he is popular enough to finally release a track under one of his aliases. I like that track from the very first listen and couldn't agree more with what Damerchi wrote.

Posted by Meat187 on Jul-24-2009 22:36:

Decent tune indeed. Nice to see some producers are still making listenable trance.

Posted by Seppuku on Jul-24-2009 22:55:

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with trance but every now and then someone like Doorn delivers.

No.

Old trance has energy. This has a 1-2-1-2 groove which just doesn't work well.

Posted by Domesticated on Jul-25-2009 05:19:

Okay, so people seem to like the fact that this tune is dark and yet still uplifting.

Try this one instead:

http://www.djdownload.com/mp3-detai...+Records/549003

It has a proper bassline and decent percussion.

Purplze Haze has always been hes best alias.
Pretty good tune for todays low standards.

Not a bad track. Nothing really mind blowing either, but decent nonetheless (unlike 99,9% of trance today).

Posted by Ricksta on Jul-27-2009 23:36:

this is am amazing track. brings out the good old memories of trance for me.....

Posted by julea on Jul-28-2009 17:04:
