Never used it but heard great reviews of it and its low price

Posted by spolitta on Jul-29-2009 00:25:

If that's all the INs & OUTs you need and you're on MAC then don't even think twice about it.

Apogee makes great products. If you have a MAC and just want a nice cheap DAC, go for it. I think it even has some inputs? I may be wrong, though.

Best 2in 2out interface for the money, period.

As long as you don't need midi I/O and have that money, you will not find a better solution.

No question. As others have said, if all you need is 2in/2out, then it really is the best quality interface in that price range.

Spot on Eric...I own one and it's fantastic

Never had any problems with it when using Logic 8

I have read some reviews as well., they have all been good. I was also told that coz it runs on USB which was my concern meaning no midi this would pose a problem. But there are USB to MIDI converters so that solves that problem. And apparently USB is the new MIDI..!

do you think that there would be some concerns if you were running a different DAW?

FireWire, not USB.

Well most keyboards, and even midi devices these days have built in midi via USB so don't worry unless you have some outboard midi devices.

All you would need for other midi only devices is a midi interface which are dirt cheap.

ah cool, yeah sorry firewire cant remember the difference. but i see what you mean

thanks guys

i used to have one but i need more than 2 inputs/ outputs.. so i sold it... sob...

When i switch from my firebox to the duet.. the stereo imaging improved and the high end was slightly clearer but you will need good signal chain to hear the difference

Don't expect performance similar to the ensemble though. It's not really an apogee from what I hear, the performance isn't anywhere near as good as the other offerings.

no shit? You mean the performance isn't as good as their X seires? I want my $500 back.

I was planning to buy the duet a few months ago and it was $475 tax included at Moog audio here in Montreal...Just went back today to grab it and now it's $579 + tax!

Bullshit

Posted by orTofnChiLd on Jul-30-2009 19:49:

i'm sure the duet uses the same converters as the ensemble

Eh? Have you been reading this thread? The Duet is MAC only and it's wicked.

Did you mean something else?

Posted by nutkinman on Aug-01-2009 10:37:

I have a Duet. The sound is excellent.

Two small issues to be aware of that I have run into.

a) It doesn't aggregate reliably with other soundcards some people have some success but it is not robust and apogee explicitly say that you can't do it.

b) The drivers are not completely rock solid (at least on my Macpro 2 x 2.8 quadcore intel) play back is always fine but sometimes I get pops/clicks on recording (especially if I have been using the apogee in a multi-client way). The problem goes away if you restart. This is at 128 sample buffer.

I would still enthusiastically recommend it though. It degrades the sound way less than a Mackie vlz pro mixer.
