What do you do, what would you like to do?
Ok, I'm almost done with highschool. This upcoming year is my senior year. I still have not decided on what I want to pursue after I finish school. I was thinking something along the lines of sound engineer, or some kind of manager since I like dealing with money. Still have no idea though, my brother is good with computers and said that he was conned into thinking about things too early and now he has a job he doesn't like and is paying off a lot of debt from student loans and living on his own. But....I'm almost done with highschool, I think I SHOULD be worrying about what I'm going to do next. I have to start thinking seriously about this. So, the purpose of this thread is that I need ideas. So I'm going to ask you two questions, feel free to elaborate.
What do you currently do?
What would you like to do/are currently pursuing?
take a year off or take two years off and work a dead end job, buy a car. pick up chicks in the car, go to bars and get hammered watsing every dollar you earn. buy a home...then go back to school.
Dude I fucking slacked off and played video games for 2 years after high school, when I finally decided to do some more school I was all signed up and ready to go and then I got offered a good job, so I took that.
Wasted 3 years of my life as an underpaid, overworked, and disrespected software developer.
Now I'm back doing nothing till I find another job.
Just do whatever, don't worry, shit falls into place a lot of times. If you are over analyzing stuff and going fucking nuts thinking things over you are going to miss the natural opportunities.
Drugs. Lots and lots of drugs. Then I decided to major in finance. Went to rehab (1 week left), been clean and sober 3 weeks, 2 years left of school. Found my calling... www.finance.com
Get a credible job (i.e in a semi-decent restaurant, doing paperwork for a respectable law firm) and work for a couple of years.
You will figure out what you want to do eventually. In the meantime, save enough money to support yourself when you decide to further your education, buy a house or go on a big holiday.
If you don't work now, it will look awful on your resume unless you have an excuse (i.e being overseas).
go to college, if you fall in love with a subject that isn't practical (ie majoring in a language) major in that and something practical. do as many internships as you can and/or volunteer so that you figure out quickly what you like and don't like plus when you graduate you'll have more experience and can therefore ask for more money. do informationals too...

dropped out of HS lacking 6 credits to graduate (dumbest fucking move EVER!)
became a board certified optician and worked 50 hrs a week and partied for 4 years straight till my brain fell out of my ass.
joined the military saw half the world. partied till my liver fell out of my ass.
currently in property management. sucks
I took a year off after high school and kinda regret it kinda don't. But don't you have 2 years of doing general education classes before you start doing shit for the career of your choice? I know lots of people who still don't know what they want to do. For me, I want to be an R.N. Going to do two years of community college and then transfer to a university. Not sure if I want to stay here though....

| Originally posted by ******** see my bio page http://williamashley.info/WAC/Biography/Bio.html I'm hoping to be doing field studies in central america this winter, learing about cultures in what is left of their natural environment. Sound is a hobby of mine and I've taken a few music courses, and am intending on taking two more music related courses this fall term, physics of high fidelity sound reproduction and Designing with Digital Sound. IMO music is 80% networking, 10% equipment use, and 10% talent. Berkely has a world reknowned music technology program. http://www.bridgetomusic.com/univer...eley-btm410.php specifically http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/ I think this may depend a lot on your option - SATS etc.. economics etc.. You do have time to switch your program after the first year sometimes, the question is local or away. UMASS or massu etc.. You could speak with your local school counsellor. Do you have professional musicians in your family or family freinds, or friends? The actual industry, agents etc.. would be lengthy to explain - personally I don't expect to ever make a career of this but handfulls of people do, but I'd say there is a plethora of amateur musicians out there. If you are serious you might try a school that offers a Co-Op program that offers industry placement (even better if paid) at a music industry place such as a label or studio, do some internships and work from there. Lots of options with money too, banking, accountancy, economics etc.. |

How could you guys not know Krypton was in rehab? I thought it was pretty obvious he was addicted to cock.
Lolololololololololol.
I started 6 months of an Arts degree after I finished HS, then deferred the course for 3 years while I went backpacking around UK, EU and Africa. Had the best fucking time ever.
Came back to Oz after that, changed my Arts major to a double major in Psychology, and graduated in 2005. In my graduating year my gf and I randomly started a small graphic design/printing/media (less emphasis on the media part these days though) business, and that's what we're still doing now.
What would I like to be doing? Photography. Full time. But, I just don't have the time, sadly, so for now it's just a hobby. One day maybe

I'm all over the map. Went to college and grad school, and finished with degrees so contrasting that they don't go together. Run a couple different business with a couple different partners now, yet I find myself all the time wondering if I should make a career change and start something else totally different. I get bored easily.
i graduated on time, and then got this great idea to move out and become mr. independent/give the finger to my parents. so i got a dead-end job as a machine operator full-time and moved out with a few different friends, bouncing around from house to house. i paid for school by myself and went part-time. later i got trained to be a MIG welder and i've been welding ever since.
three years later, i graduated from school with an associate's degree and also got fired from my job. i thought i was going to get a job at a big GM plant in town, so i once again gave my superiors the finger- the problem is, i failed the hair follicle drug test for GM and ended up being unemployed. i moved back home for a couple months, then decided to move to milwaukee and attend school there for my bachelor's.
found a job welding within the first two days of checking out milwaukee and i've lived here ever since, working and going to school as i always have. i've been in college for 6 years but only have about 3 years of my bachelor's degree completed.
do i regret moving out right away and working? no, it taught me a lot about surviving with a limited income, saving, and stretching money when needed. i'm also glad that i never got the GM job, because as everyone knows, the plant went under this year and i'd be without a job or an education. that and i've made the most important connections in my life with people that i've met in milwaukee.
i plan on moving out of this town soon though
always gotta go bigger and better i suppose.
tl;dr: i've been working full-time and going to school part-time since HS graduation, i've moved a countless amount of times and plan on doing so again.

What the fuck is an associate's degree? I don't understand that about the States. Up here anything less than a bachelor's is just a diploma or certificate.
