also, has anyone else read/heard about vitamins that you get at the groery store being "bullshit" and there's not nearly as much stuff in them as they claim to have?

Posted by Ygrene on Jul-30-2009 01:38:

Chewable C, a multi-vitamin, and baby aspirin every day.

Posted by Rose on Jul-30-2009 01:39:

No, although it is the case that some of the vitamins and minerals might not be absorbed very well in supplement form, especially if you take them without food, e.g. vitamins A and D are fat-soluble.

i thought about taking a kids vitamin. i got those "one a day for women" and they make me light headed and nauseous. i even puked one morning after taking one on an empty stomach.

Gummi, as if you have to ask

You shouldn't take vitamins on an empty stomach. It has the potential for upset, and it won't be absorbed as well without some fat in your digestive tract.

yea i tried taking them with food too and i didn't puke but i still got queasy. i dunno what it is about those womens one. maybe too much iron or something? but then again when i get my period, i think i get anemic because i get abnormally tired. like, to the point where i could just put my head down wherever i'm at and be sleeping in minutes. it sucks.

Also, some of the ingredients in multi-vitamins can actually "block" the absorption of other ingredients. Calcium inhibits the absorption of magnesium, for example.

Mostly because I'm at a relatively high risk for heart disease and to a lesser extent, diabetes. But also because my body aches a bit from basketball and lifting; it helps a bit with that too.

Aspirin protects against diabetes? Didn't know that.

+1,000,000

Even a remotely healthy diet is more than enough to get all you need. Paying for vitamins gives you expensive pee, that's it.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jul-30-2009 01:48:

Multivitamin, calcium+viamin d, vitamin b6, vitamin b12.

when you start getting old you need to take things in pill form if you're not getting enough vitmains and nutrients from the food you eat.

i eat A LOT of veggies and tomatoes/avocados and salad. pretty much every single night i have a salad with dinner. i'm definitely getting whatever nutrition is offered from green leafy veggies and tomatoes, that's for sure. i dont get enough calcium though even though i do like milk. i just dont drink it enough.

One of the biggest cash-cow hoaxes to be pulled over the consumer. Theyre not properly regulated either- you know why? Because none of their products are promised to achieve any noticeable results, unlike proper medication. No regulation, no duty of care, massive profits. Wish id got in on the bottom floor :/

do you notice the b12? like enough to not need coffee? i've been thinking of adding b12 to my list.

Remember that calcium is fairly useless for bone health without also having enough magnesium and vitamin D.
