The Anti-dj-mag poll - thread!
The annual Anti DJ-mag poll- thread!
Nowadays DJs are superstars, and has all the power atm;
By:
- Supporting and handpicking out their personal favourite producers, simply based upon styles, inviting them to their shows, in other words chose who will get hyped and who doesnt!
- DJs getting bigger and bigger, and can charge as much as big rock bands in 1 live gig, simply playing mostly other peoples tracks.
- Fans idolize these djs, and uncritically automatically idolize everything they stand for, including what tracks they play ie.
- Djs are indirectly dictating what different styles\arrangments will get popular, by supporting certain artists\tracks based up on their own personal taste?!
- This leads to them indirectly dictating what music\style\arrangment should will get popular and not.
- This excludes some artists that doesnt fall into ie Armin or Tiesto`s personal referance\taste.
- This leads to some newcomers to copy ie Above & Beyond, Aly & Fila , cause its their only ticket to success.
- This leads to artists that are supported by certain profiled djs automatically get more popular than others simply of that reason.
- This leads to those artists directly getting more popular in amount of weeks, than other artists being in the game for much longer - not cause they make better music, but simply cause they picked the "right" style.
- djs copying other djs to succeed (ie Tiesto vs Armin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSRKNJ4aFFQ).
- This leads to producers avoid doing a personal style, cause of these factors mentioned..- leads to the music evolving slowly, and leads to overflood of ie Deadmau5 styled tracks, a&b sounding tracks.
-this leads to instead of the fans searching for tracks\finding their music on their own thru a desert of these copy-tracks cause it takes too much time, - they rather find music thru dj playlists - which completes the spiral.
Thats why to me DJ mag poll is only contributing in a negative way for the scene.
I illustrated this in an old thread about the trance scene a couple of years back (which got huge support btw):
"Djs get hooked up in one particular style\standard sound/arrangement and support it nomatter how bad\good the track is (they got their taste just like me and you). But the djs indirectly sort of dictates what style should be popular or not. And as we know so many fans look up to those djs as some sort of superstars, the fans get so hooked up in this style, that its leading to the particular subgenre\style getting hyped, and not the particular track\theme. I got many examples of artists i think is popular cause of style they produce, not wether their music is well written.. this is not black and white either. but ive seen this a lot... But in the end, its what the trance fans look at, and so do labels. The problem is that if you dont produce "the right" style, and dont get played by armin or tiesto, then you will not get remix-requests from big labels, so practically the djs "Tastes" are indirectly shaping how the trance will evolve..and further how you "should" produce to succeed. "
Any thoughts on this?

I think most here would rather just ignore the poll and those who seek to profit from it.
Oh, I was just going here to share my frustration over an mailbox with 8 emails (arriving the same day), all telling me to vote for random DJ's, i dont give a f*ck about Bobina or other DJ slags.

I just can't understand how being for example number 3 on the djmag poll can lead to flyers saying "the number 3 dj in the world". |

The spam is what I hate the most, if people really like you as a DJ they are going to vote for you regardless, no email, facebook invite, free track, or begging is going to change that persons mind.
