Jan Johnston- Sleeping Satellite

Hey there,

Im not huge on doing stuff like this, but I thought it was worth a mention as there has been a lot of wait on this project as well as a lot of general discussion about the project, status of Jans album and all that.

After about 4 years of waiting this is finally released. This has been probably the most emailed about track ive ever done. I finished my first version of this in Jan 2006 and Oakey played this on his essential mix later that year. Ever since that airing I have gotten at least one email or myspace message a week about this remix. Well after 3 and half years and many delays this is finally seeing the light of day.

Jan Johnston- Sleeping Satellite (Kenneth Thomas remix)

Enjoy!

Glad this is finally out, as good as your remix is I went for the Sam Vehadi & Swedish Egil mix, as its slower and fits in the prog house style easier.

What is the BPM of your remix btw?

Wasn't there already another dance cover of that song made a few years ago?

Downtempo Club Mix is simply epic.

Your remix feels like it doesn't quite catch the meaning of the track, well produced overall.

Agreed, my mix isnt for the "prog" sets. Its actually the tranciest track ive ever done, fastest as well. I think its 136 maybe 138. I cant really remember cause it was produced 3+ years ago haha... Even back then I barely broke 132bpm even when playing peak trance, but Paul was asking for a "full on trancer" and this was my first project since signing to Perfecto. Im actually really happy with it, there was no parts just the vocal. Im not the most talented person when it comes to music theory but I am very happy with the melodies and harmonies I found to work with the vocals. Theres a Guitar riff that takes off in the second breakdown that I was really stoked with. All in all, I do feel the mixdown could be better, but again, it was years ago and we are always critical on our older productions.

Glad it finally is released though

Yeap, thats the idea, one single every 4 years, within 40 years the whole album will be out! A bit of a forward thinking marketing ploy

To be honest, I think the second single Obsession is coming soon as well. But not sure about the whole album, dont know if thats going to come out or if its just these two singles.

Well now, since you've covered your remixing for some time, get back to searching for that Rojam ID please

After a quick listen of the Beatport samples:

Vocals are absolutely terrible.

An Instrumental Club Mix might be good. Robert Vadney Remix had some potential as well, but vocals ruined it. Nat Monday Remix could be very good without the vocals.

All other mixes are terrible and would be even without the vocals. Sorry KT.

Oh, and original by Tasmin Archer is brilliant!

sick remix

Obsessions listed on amazon for september 1st release

Aurora did a version of Sleeping Satellite which I think didnt see a full release as Multiply went bye bye with Telstar, Super8 remix of that still rocks.

Jans not singing it note for note copy cat vocals of Tasmin, which the Aurora version did, its a refreshing variation. Dub versions wouldve been welcomed by many though.

As I have dosh to spare, have bought KT's mix of SS now too.

I agree the vocals here are absolutely terrible and I am surprised this is in the top 100 on beatport. The vocals sound like different singers in each version. It does not like it was professionally recorded. The Kenneth Thomas remix is like a glass of fresh water in the desert. It cannot do much but sounds great as a dub if there was one. Perfecto should release some dubs of this remix. Skip your assessment of KT remix is completely off it is clearly the best mix.

Picked up the original Tasmin Archer CD single at a bootsale for 50p this morning coincidentally

Already picked up the Kenneth Thomas rmx. Good vocal from Jan.

KT,

you mentioned you were finalizing Element 4- Big Brother theme?

ANy sample you could provide? it's been a while and would love to know if that will be released

Posted by djjasonb on Aug-11-2009 09:18:

How about the breakbeat version of Element 4 as used since series 2 or 3 of BB being released
