A group of over 300 internet service providers and telecommunications firms is fighting back against the British governments plans to monitor all emails, phone calls and internet activity nationwide. The London Internet Exchange (LINX), which represents some 330 companies, including BT, Virgin and Carphone Warehouse, says that the government is misleading the public about the extent to which it plans to monitor their communications and internet activity. LINX has described the Governments surveillance proposals as an unwarranted invasion of peoples privacy. A statement from the group to the Home Office reads: We view the description of the Governments proposals as maintaining the capability as disingenuous the volume of data the Government now proposes we should collect and retain will be unprecedented. This is a purely political description that serves only to win consent by hiding the extent of the proposed extension of powers for the state.
The crickets come out in this forum when fucked up things like this get brought up... like my thread about the "95% of the people won't see their taxes get raised a dime when I'm elected" lie being exposed.
How crazy is this? Setting up a domestic/civillian spy force, enlisting citizens to tattle to the government on other citizens??? This is like the Hitler Youth thing where kids were told in school to tell the authorities if they overheard their parents discussing things that were contrary to Nazism. Let's see the hypocricy in this...

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we cant keep track of all of them here at the White House, were asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to [email protected].

I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic, and we should stand up and say, "WE ARE AMERICANS AND WE HAVE A RIGHT TO DEBATE AND DISAGREE WITH ANY ADMINISTRATION!"

And they still haven't said what they plan on doing with those names. Fucking fucked up. Flashback to April 28th, 2003. Here's Hillary Clinton yelling: |

Originally posted by Krypton If Republicans excel at anything, it's fear mongering. I know it was important for the last administration to stay as far away from the people, and that it's so horrible that this administration actually tries to make some connection with the people. They want to know the other side of the argument, and especially the rumors, which are often flat out wrong. I find no problem whatsoever with them seeking to be aware of what these rumors are so they can formulate responses and rebuttals to all of them. This fear mongering campaign by the right wing is laughable. And I'm dissappointed you fell head over heels for it. Hitler Youth? Are you fucking kidding me?

I don't object to them being aware of the opposition's arguments, though the way they are going about it is probably questionable.
I think it is strange and very suspicious. Do you really think they don't know popular arguments against health care?
