-- MySpace is dead...what's the new MySpace?

Confused MySpace is dead...what's the new MySpace?

The MySpace pages feel so slow to use/browse and pretty messy.
Also I did read that MySpace community is decreasing (but FaceBook's is increasing, but FaceBook isn't really a musician/band site...).

So what is the alternative option to MySpace?
Any good and smoothly runnin music sites out there?

GOOD in MySpace:
-When you find an artist you like, it's pretty easy to find more similar style artist/people by browsing his/her friends
-The music player is easy to see + use (but it can be really slow!!)
-You can see the artist's music videos easily on the page
-People/users can design their own look to their profile pages

BAD :
-The huge use of flash/can be totally totally slow to use
-The music videos can take AGES to load
-The comments lists can take ages to load...
-People/users can design their own pages (so they can be totally slow to load or really messy/hard to read the text)
-It can take AGES to load one page before you can start to listen the music...

Facebook kinda sucks for music networking...the segregation between friends pages and fan pages doesnt help. One of the reasons why Myspace took off when it comes to Artists, is that regular people could actually add their favorite Artists to their "friendlist." And the way the fan page section is setup, browsing through someones "fan page" is rather tedious, not to mention people want to be "friends" with artists, not "fans." Myspace is still the best place for an actual fan to find up to date info about an artist they are interested in, as slow and clunky as it may be.

Soundcloud need to hurry up and take over.

So many more versatile features.

- Upload ANY type of audio file.
- No limit to files sizes uploaded
- Embeded players to anywhere that allows embed.
- Unlike myspace you get the full quality of the music uploaded
- Private sharing to selective people is optional
- The Dropbox feature.
- Free Accounts get 5 spaces for tracks a month that stack. But only the last 10 tracks uploaded will be shown on your page.
- See the waveforms
- Timeline comments
- Much more than i cna even remember.

Unless they are someone way out of reach, I just add other artists via msn/yahoo/aim/icq/whatever. Its the best way I know to communicate. Also, what we really need is a IRC channel.

Also, in the future, Tindeck will have a sister site for artists to post full albums and such and to connect to other artists, the only issue some people may have is that you can only upload music under the Creative Commons license.

I forgot to mention the dashboard feature where you can follow artists and other artists can follow you. its like how twitter is but for music, so you are updated when the people you are following upload music and your followers are updated when you upload music.

Soundcloud is great, and it has really picked up over the past year or so and it will only get more popular. There is no other bullshit like there is on Myspace, its just about sharing your music. Quite a few labels are using the drop box feature and it also lets you know when they have listened to it, whether they reply or not, pretty handy in my opinion.

well there's - Reverbnation for your music its a bit like myspace.

Posted by alanzo on Aug-07-2009 14:43:

Myspace isn't going anywhere. They're re-focusing their efforts on Music. No other social networking site has done, or will now be able to do, what they've done with music. They're the kings of it and will be for at least the foreseeable future.

The problem with soundcloud, reverbnation, etc. is that the users are all just other musicians/producers. If you want to reach the much larger market of non-musicians, I'd say myspace is still the king, but a lot of people seem to be doing well on Facebook as well. I have a personal FB account, but I'm considering adding an artist one. I've heard rumors that FB is going to be adding some music resources (e.g., mp3 player) for artists in the near future.

Posted by jason_bradberry on Aug-07-2009 18:20:

Facebook already has a music player function Its activated via the edit page function when you log into your artist page, you have to send a copy of your ID though to prove you have the right to upload the songs, which is a bit overkill in my opinion!

I'm not so into FaceBook= I can't use/sing in with my artist/musician name. And I don't want to use my real name since I would like to use my artist name...

can you download files off soundcloud rather than using the audio player

Soundcloud is nice, but not exactly free either.

MySpace has always sucked because the format is crap, the music player is crap, and any somewhat popular artist page will have comments full of giant pictures, videos, or other songs. The only good thing about it is the enormous user base.

Posted by sixofour.604 on Aug-08-2009 03:32:

You need to rent a plane and dump trillions of little slips of paper with your website address.

Yes if the user has chosen the option to make the file downloadable.

Yeah, that is what I also hate in Myspace.
And sometimes there is real cacophony going on=the musicplayer's song starts to play, a video's song starts to play, the comments songs start to play all at the same time you open the page.

Soundscape is not going to take over. No way in hell, what the hell are you guys thinking? Myspace is a total buzz-word. Every idiot has heard of myspace. NO ONE has heard of Soundscape. Like I said, Myspace is refocusing their efforts on Music. They've been able to take online music to a level it's never been before. Even mp3.com before it has nothing on Myspace Music. It's here, not queer, get used to it.

Posted by Nightshift on Aug-11-2009 00:06:

Soundcloud is still better.

jus sayin'

Posted by Zombie0729 on Aug-11-2009 00:49:

alan's right, myspace is the #1 resource for music searches at the moment. they are now the 11th most visited site(they were at #2 for a while) and facebook is #4. facebook is launching their music/artist section sometime this year to compete but for the time being myspace is the most applicable for the general user to find an artist and listen to their music

tranceaddict is the new myspace.
