[Funky House / Piano Jam] The Snark - Summer Funk

The Snark - Summer Funk by michaeld

Had some fun with this one.

bump... surprised to see nobody's really checked it out yet... usually people on here are all about a funky piano track

Posted by Az on Aug-14-2009 21:09:

not my thing man sorry
probably potential there, but i can't get past the bassline

Posted by BshidoHEAT on Aug-14-2009 23:10:

I thought it was pretty cool, except that bassline, sounded like it had to much 'grit' to it. I listened to this on crappy laptop speakers though so take that with grain of salt.

I figured that bassline would be a make-or-break kind of thing for this track. I was going for a kind of lo-fi funk sound.

Thanks for listening, guys

it's a cool track, but low pass that damned bassline...really...

sorry mate, could not listen too long, that bassline goes on my nerves sorry

otherwise, cool! from what I could hear

Posted by Sh!fty on Aug-16-2009 21:00:

this is really great, tempo could be little bit higher for my taste

what kind of piano is that?

Posted by Omega_Blue on Oct-13-2009 21:16:

didn't see this til now.

i don't doubt the production quality at all, it just sounds too much like a track from streets of rage. i understand why the bassline sounds like it does, you want it funky and fun, retro 80's vibe right? perhaps a spiritcatcher feel? also, the beginning rhodes sound sounds, well, too cheap. sounds again like something from a sega genesis game. try using a different rhodes patch? one that sounds more realistic/organic? are you using loungelizard or something else?

ah, the bassline in the middle of the track is what i'm talkin about. sounds much better there. i like the feeling there. overall i like the track, i don't mind the arrangement, but it reminds me so much of sonic the hedgehog 2 or king of fighters that it's hard for me to really get down with.

Hey man,

This was very refreshing funky track. Good concept and nice composition, but this buzz in my speakers really didn't let me completely focus on the beauty of this music. I prefer bass at 2:59.
What would spice up this rhythm is a pad as nice background in secound part of this track.

Overall good funky track. Keep them rolling, man.

I don't really mind the "buzzing" bassline that nobody seems keen on, but when I first played the track I had my monitors up pretty loud and noticed another strange buzz in the background. It's like you're sitting in an office and there is a broken light above you :P

It's quite cool, though!

I liked the funky vibe of the track, but i'm not a fan of the vocals. Overall - pretty sweet!

Hey Owsey2008,

this is the one buzz I was talking about. It was loud enough for me that I couldn't focus on the melody line.

Cheers.

Oh! I thought people were talking about the "buzzing" bassline

I like it - bass and everything. Actually, the bass is my favorite part of the track. I've been a bassist for 30+ years and spent many years playing in funk bands, so maybe I just hear it from a different perspective than others do, but I like the way it grooves and the way the buzzing cuts through the mix (reminds me of the chatter and buzzing you get from a nice fresh set of bass strings). The funky house piano and vox are a nice touch, too.

lol

Thanks Cryo

It's really not bad. And I, too, like the bass. It's a very unique sound. Really, the track doesn't seem to take itself too seriously but also takes some risks. From the tacky-tines to the decidedly understated recessed percussion, to non-looping piano - all told a nice, well-rounded tune which feels like a jam.

My only problem is that I don't really see people with pacifiers and glow-sticks taking this song seriously enough to dance to. I don't think it's really going to attract the prototypical 'raver' crowd. Don't get me wrong. I think it sounds great, just not reaching for laser beams great

This isn't your glowstick crowd type of music anyway. This is house music.

Anyways,
This is a good track whatever people might say. I might be inclined just to take a little off the top of the bassline, only for the reason that it tends to detract from the excellent composition going on around it. but I think this is one of those style tracks where the more you listen the more you hear if you catch my drift. Perhaps even automate it so that you just take some of the edge off it as the other stuff creeps in.

Just like Cryo, all those years ago I was also a bassist and think it definitely works as a concept, to change it now would be to steal the soul from the track.

Just my two cents.

Cheers
