For all you Outlook users out there

Rejoice...we will finally have threaded email in the next version. I just got the Technical Preview, and here is an example.

You get an e-mail every time someone posts in a thread you've posted in? Bro, I would kill myself if I got that many e-mails.

Posted by iclone on Aug-08-2009 04:09:

lol I am lazy. And it is gmail, so it isn't bad at all. Threaded ftw.

I have enough problems with Exchange 2010 let alone Outlook 2010.
I miss Outlook Express!

EDIT: I think i'm on the only one that doesnt like conversation view

That would be mega useful as work emails piss me off being so unorganised and shit.

I'm the same. I never quite understood why people used that option.

Well I cannot wait for my work to update to 2007...and then 8 years later to 2010...then I will love this option!

You don't want 2007. Just tell them to skip 2007 and go straight to 2010. I am pretty sure 2010 is like 2007 but a lot better. Heh

Posted by shaw on Aug-08-2009 16:09:

thank god.

when is it coming out?

Posted by woscar on Aug-08-2009 16:17:

That is indeed awesome. It would be really useful at work if they decide to switch early.

The whole Office suite is a LOT faster. Also, they did add on fantastic feature. When the splash screen comes up, there is a cancel button to stop it from loading. And the splash screen shows what addons are being loaded as long as they take 500ms or longer to load. All for diagnostic reasons. So helps to determine what addons are the root cause of the hang.

Next year sometime. Probably around Oct or Nov.

Well, this is a very early build. The Alpha was only distributed to a very select few in January. It isn't even officially a beta build.

Nope, you're not. Sunsnail hates it too. You guys must never have to deal with e-mail at work. It is single handedly, one of the best features of Outlook 2010.

I do it because I am lazy and forget what threads I am posting in. I never click on the "profile" button to see what threads have new shit. I always just have my email, c0re subforum open, and other unrelated stuff. Realize, that I am reading and doing other stuff. It is a notification, nothing more.

For one thing, the threaded option is great for work purposes when you are exchanging e-mails with a co-worker or customer/client about an issue or upgrade, and the "thread" becomes alive 3 months later. Rather than try to search for the older e-mail connected to the new e-mail, the threaded e-mail will have the old and new e-mail together. It is such a pain in the neck when you try to find older e-mail, and it's not as properly organized. Luckily, I spent a couple of hours one day to sort out my work e-mail.

Even if it isn't old, if you get a lot of emails, it makes it a lot less cluttered and easier to follow.

about 250 mb total on average (70 physical) and maxing out to around 330-350

i'm not saying outlook should be a lightweight app, but that seems to be a lot for just an e-mail / appointment / calendar/ etc application seeing that MS Word starts up around 30 physical. I may have some additional features on that i set by accident that is causing it to use more time to startup and such.

With Outlook right now (this is just my gmail account) it has a working set total of 78MB. I will see what it is on Monday at work with an Exchange account and 2 PST files loaded and post back.

lol so inaccurate. Faster and better to just click on the profile button at the top of the page. Or do you not subscribe to the threads that you post in?
