Armin Vs Tiesto...better producer?

that includes whoever the production team behind them are, if it has their name on it, its theirs...ok? so...whos better?

Posted by RebeL9 on Aug-08-2009 18:56:

It depends.

For the last 6-7 years I cannot think of any good track that both have produced. They've both gone to do utter shitty tracks.

Before that they were both quite even.

I think Armin is a more competent producer on his own given that he produced Blue Fear at a very early age. With regards to his more recent tunes, I really like "Empty State".

but then again, there is "fuck me right"...

Armin

What they produced together was epic.

I really liked the "Just Be" album. love comes again, traffic, adagio for strings, are all solid productions.

That being said, i like tiesto more.

Armin

Armin, hands down.

Tiesto's productions suck, both technically and musically. I have several of Armin's productions that I still enjoy, and the mixing and mastering is always top-notch.

This thread is about five years too late, since it's been at least half a decade since either of them made anything worth hearing.

With that said, the answer is: Tiesto, effortlessly. In My Memory had tracks on which I'd still play today: Battleship Grey, Dallas 4pm, Obsession and Suburban Train. You can't really kick his remixes of Silence or Flesh, and I'd credit the Way Out West remix of Suburban Train with my love affair with progressive.

Armin has only produced one track which I really enjoyed at the time, namely his remix of Rapture by IIO. Communication was alright and Blue Fear sounds good on NE2, but the rest didn't interest me even when I was inhaling supersaws.

Tiesto -
Suburban train
adagio for strings
Nanya
Theme from Norefjell
Lethel industry (for what it does on the dance floor apperntly)

Then his co-produced
West & Storm - Porpoise
Kamaya Painters - endless wave
Gouryella - Gouryella

I can't think of a single good tune produced by Armin.

You guys are fags. I fucking hate commercial trance (dedicated psy-head) and I love some of Armin's stuff. He doesn't have any stupidly long breakdowns usually, which is the main issue for me with trance.

Shivers - awesome, awesome bassline. Mediocre vocals but there is a dub mix available which remedies this. Secretly though, I like to dress up in women's underwear and sing along to this one with a hairbrush in my hand. "SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVEEEERS, UP AND DOWN MY SPINE!"

Burned With Desire - again, shit vocal, but excellent bassline and the little arpy plucks early on are extremely hypnotic. I also like to sing to this while looking wistfully at pictures of all the girls who have rejected me over the years, and believe me, there are a LOT.

Communication Part III - Massive supersaw sound. Perhaps you hate that, but as far as supersaws go, this is an excellent melody, extremely uplifting and not so cheesy.

Control Freak - Everyone only knows the SvD Remix, but the original is great. Not a ridiculous breakdown in sight, the main melody is quite original and not stupidly epic or overly loaded with reverb.

Sail - Again, great bass line. The piano is a bit homo, but the other melodic part is hypnotic and cheese-free.

Serenity - Probably my favourite Armin track. It's like Traffic but about ten times better. Traffic just uses the same stupid loop over and over again, but this uses a similarly harsh synth but with a properly evolving melody and other interesting elements to back it up. The kick drum is also brilliant technically.

Of course, that's all his post 2000 stuff. The pre-2000 stuff is mostly good too.

Tiesto's tracks all sound like they were produced on a Casio too.

That's right, if you DON'T like Armin, you're a homosexual.

Posted by Fledz on Aug-09-2009 05:34:

Easily Tiesto. The amount of classics he's churned out over the years is astonishing.

wait, what?? I mean, I agree with you on many points here, but this is very unexpected

"birth of an angel" is a much better tune than "shivers", the vocals really do detract.

What did you think of "empty state", I think its one of his most underappreciated tunes.

+1 on serenity, but you have to credit Jan Wayne for the pad sequences.

Posted by drEamer on Aug-09-2009 08:35:

interesting......i like going to both of their shows, but this thought has kind of been kicking around in my heard for awhile....Tiesto to me, has more massive tracks.....adagio for strings, lethal industry, songs that have tons of energy when u are on the dance floor....Armin has more, "fluffy" tracks.....tracks that make u feel like floating away......more tracks girls would like! LOL

In My Memory > 76

Everything else is not worthy of mentioning

Posted by TranceOwnsLol on Aug-09-2009 09:55:

Well, as a producer, probably Armin for me. As a DJ, Tiesto.

Communication Part 2 is my favorite trance track and easily the track that made me a full fledged trance listener before. That being said, on my ipod, the most songs of an artist I have is from Armin.

However, I only really like 2 tracks from Armin. Communication and Burned With Desire.

My favorite Tiesto track has to be Sparkles. Favorite tiesto collaboration track is 'Walhalla'.

Tisto by far !!!

They both haven't produced anything really worthwhile the last couple of years, but if you look to their earlier period I'd say Tisto made the better tracks. He's produced way more classics than Armin did. I still like his In My Memory album and Tisto also maded some great remixes I still like today. Armin alos produced some nice tunes but in most cases I prefer those of Tisto

Why?

Ferry Corsten...

Oh.. Its between Tiesto and Armin, then I would say before they were both were pretty much on par with each other, both have done some fantastic tracks. Although in the last 5 years neither of them has produced a memorable track.
