Thumbs down Hard Summer Shut Down 8/9/09

Just got back from the party(hardfest.com) all the way out in Inglewood at the Forum.

Music stopped at 10pm and got shut down by the PD an hour or so later.

Lot of angry ravers afterwards. They better hook up the people with some refunds, and not put on another show.

It was getting too crazy at 9pm, so then I definitely knew trouble was going to happen as the night progressed--but not as soon as 10pm!!

Was looking forward to a lot of acts, and curious to see how Underworld was going to perform.

Check out the blog post for more details.

Only djs I saw was Busy P and Jackbeats.

damn that sucks. was it a capacity issue?

Posted by dollaroff on Aug-09-2009 13:50:

From what we heard while leaving it was a capacity issue: too many people at the venue.

My brother was there, he said there was a full on riot lol. Fucking kids and shitty promoters, that's just a timebomb waiting to happen. I'm honestly not surprised, this is only Hard's 3rd party (maybe 4th). They clearly bit off more than they could chew. If anyone knows how to go about getting a refund please post it up.

Thank GOD I didn't end up getting tickets.

That sucks.

But is it now possible that there will be a makeup date for Underworld? One that involves more experienced promoters?

Posted by sweetcandy girl on Aug-09-2009 17:02:

Oh wow! that sucks!

Besides Underworld- who was else due to play?

I'm really upset for all the kids that missed out on their show. It's really something to be experienced. Shitty

Posted by sweetcandy girl on Aug-09-2009 17:10:

Confused

I do not understand why Underworld was booked by themselves???

Posted by DaveT on Aug-09-2009 17:27:

Damn, I want to see more video from the inside of the venue during the chaos.

First video is a compilation some guy made..

Apparently this guy was cool ont he mic. The guy after was cursing ot the crowd.

Posted by dollaroff on Aug-09-2009 18:10:

It was a mess.

I told everyone I knew to talk to their credit card company and dispute the charge. That way, you'll get all your money back (and do that ASAP).
If TM does a refund, you usually get everything back but one of the fees.

Don't. Oversell. Tickets. Not hard.

Posted by trancechan on Aug-09-2009 18:17:

damn.

i was supposed to go to this with my (now ex) girlfriend to see underworld.

as fortune would have it, we broke up; so no show - but underworld didn't even play?

what a nightmare.

Posted by dollaroff on Aug-09-2009 18:34:

Only the first two acts played (8-9:45ish), before they cut them off. Then, they brought up the lights until 12:00a, and then brought up the house lights then and started to kick everyone out.

This isn't the first time shit like this happened.

What was it like a year ago when a bunch of kids knocked down a wall at one of the Hard fests and a few hundred people got in to the sold out show?

Its the crowd that they are dealing with has a lot to do with.

I remember earlier this year when i drove up to see Deadmau5 at the apple store. All those kids fucked that up to.

As far as a refund, has any massive given money back?

Right but that's a full week before, not much cash was wasted.

Last night they through the party like if it had gone all night, TONS of money was blown.

Yeah i just saw their twitter:

Full refund will be made available for those who purchased tickets to HARD SUMMER more info coming ASAP.

I see kids rushign the gates every yearat monster massive, in mass. Always the same spot every year two. Dozens of peopel will jump and go through and they may catch one or two people because it's almost like it's organized and they all go at the right time when Security isn't paying attention to that area...

Anyhow, I see that happening and don't see MM getting shut down.

And at EDC, didn't they shut down the music in the Coliseum itself for awhile because of the crowd?

Anyhow, this is two major EDM events in LA in a row that had the fire marshall involved it looks like. It could make trouble for getting permits in the future if it keeps happening.

I am sure the organizers got some fat insurance. Not sure to what extent they got it or what you can even get on your insurance for these events (outside of insurance for full cancellations out of your control), but maybe there's something where if they are deemed to have enough security (by legal standards), etc etc etc...and that it's not necessarily from bad planning...maybe they make a claim for insurance.

I dunno.

Shhaaaadddddyyyyyy Promoters. They get what they deserve. Karma is a bitch.

Posted by bas on Aug-09-2009 20:14:

I don't think it has anything to do with them being shady. They just bit off way more than they could chew with Underworld headlining. The combination of them, Chromeo, Tiga, Sebastian, Busy P, Steve Aoki (still makes me lol...lol) etc...it's a hipster kid's wet dream.

according to some reliable sources, they over sold the event by 3000. Thats A LOT!!! They've also had a history of thinking more about $$ then the scene itself.
