DJ and Design?
Hi guys,
Got a question.... I know as a dj/producer your set n track is the most important.. but do you really care about about your logo, myspace layout and stuff?
Just asking :P
Thanks
your site should be neat and organized (easy to navigate). this means no stock-pile of pictures and flash and all this shit that just makes it harder for people to get around, and it should load quickly
I'm having problems getting my site to load quickly. I only used Iweb to make it but I personally think it doesn't load fast enough.
I recently updated my website to try and simplify it a little more.
Below is the link to it. Wasn't sure whether or not to include a picture but went with it in the end.

I do think your 'style'/website is important though. It's good to have a place where you can let people get new and old sets of yours or somewhere you can direct them to if they ask you if you have a website. It's just a little more professional i suppose. I haven't bothered with myspace yet.
Fuck MySpace...get a proper website
branding is definitely important.
people tend to remember you better when they link you to a particular look or feel.
consistency is key here.
use the same (or at least similar) colors, style and design on all your promotional media ie: website, logo, business cards, social networking sites
It's as much about how you market yourself as anything else. It's a very superficial industry and image is vital.
My own website isn't all that I'm afraid, haven't got the time to make it anybetter than it is... www.myspace.com/calvinkarass but it works and I get quite a lot of traffic there.
I try to follow the same theme on youtube, but as for having my own, well when the time is available I will do that too.
The hardest thing is attracting people to your sites and you have to have a good strategy for that... which I don't at the moment.
Cheers
Nem

I've recently been reading a lot of marketing blogs and there are two things that come up time and time again: Consistency and frequency.
Consistency: Your designs have to be consistent across the board. Create a look and stick to it.
Frequency: You need to give people a reason to go to your site. Once they come, you want them to return. The only way to do that is to provide content frequently enough so that people will be encouraged to check back every once and a while.

The sad truth is that people probably aren't going to visit your promo site every day, or probably not even every month. They may still come back, but the frequency of their visits just aren't going to be what it's like for other sites. So you have to adjust your content accordingly. I think this is a large reason why many DJs don't put as much effort into their websites as they do their social media profiles. If you're on a network that your audience visits every day they're more likely to see all of your updates. I think a main website should be more of a portal. That's what gets people interested in you. This is the thing that comes up first in Google when they search for your name. Once you have their attention you keep them captivated through social media networks. |
Hi guys, for me my own website is out of the question right now due to costs(South Africa's internet has some way to go trust me!) and a little impractical as i don't have much content for more than one page just yet. So far I've only been using myspace but there's some problem with adding friends but at least its something
will be looking at facebook soon.
I've integrated the soundcloud player on my myspace page and I'm sure it's easy to do on facebook. I agree that having your own website is better but only if you need it. I'm not quite at that point just yet.
just my thoughts!

^ that's a great idea! thankyou
will be sorting that out soon!
Another place to promote yourself is local Dj Registry sites. I've got a profile set up one such site with my basic details.. style of music etc. If I search from my local google site(google usually opens to your countries google - if that makes sense) for "trance Dj in whichever city", my chances are higher of getting a hit simply because I have a listing on a local site.
A few extra cents!lol
perfect thread for my question
i need to make a DJ logo for an upcoming gig and im not sure where to look
any suggestions?
