Techno?

hey guys i been here a while and i see how you guys give tips on how to make trance, like what synths to use etc. and i was wondering if you can give me any tips on what to use if i plan on doing techno> i mean in software and hardware wise, techno like what chris liebing and umek do, i love the synths umek uses, any idea what equipent does he have?

thanks

Best Regards

I don't know about chris liebing or umek, but generally techno is more based on samplers/drumboxes than synths. I do hear a yamaha an1x sound come by frequenctly tho. I guess most important parts are TR-909/other x0x-es and for the acid-y stuff TB303

so software wise i should give a try to rebirth?

I don't think there's a problem making techno in either fruityloops or Reason. I wouldn't go for rebirth because it's a bit limiting.. but if you got Reason I think you can rewire rebirth with Reason (or visa versa) then you have 808, 909, 2 x 303 plus a complete software studio

I'm thinking of getting a laptop with Reason while I'm in the army so that I still can make music

Good luck with the techno.
Sorry I don't know any tips

Ok, that's a topic i like.

if you want to produce hard techno tracks in the style of liebing, umek, rush and speedy j. (just to mention a few) then i would prefer fruityloops.
it's so easy to produce some complex rhythm patterns with it, so thats why fruity is my first choice
then you need some fx like a compressor and a distortion-plugin (very very important!!!)
as a synth i recommend NI's pro52 or JunoX2. you can get some cool hard&ill sounds out of them.

if you are interrested in more, just pm me.

what fx and compressor do you reccomend? i will pm you since im really interested

Well, the Fruity Blood Overdrive is good, it's simple and easy to use. There are some other good Distortion Fx like 'MDA Overdrive' or 'BJ Overdrive'. The best is, they are all for free!
Some very cool sounding fx are 'Ohmforce Predatohm' or a vst called 'Dominion'. They act like a compressor/distortion/eq thingy.

As a compressor i mainly use the 'Fruity Compressor'. But if you can get your hands on these, try 'Waves C1 Compressor' or 'Steinbergs ME Compressor'. But again, there are so much freeware plugins out there.

I cant remember any url right now. but i'll post a list of them here, soon.
