Love Poundin' Sensation The San Francisco LovEvolution needs volunteers!

The San Francisco LovEvolution needs volunteers!

As you may know, the organization behind this massive celebration is grassroots and not for profit so everything that is accomplished year in and year out is a result of many generous people giving up their free time and efforts in the spirit of love.

Last year as a result of volunteer efforts, we pulled off the biggest success yet with over 100,000 revelers and 0 incidents. I want to invite you to help us execute an even bigger success this year.

As in previous years, we will need two teams of volunteers to help out on Friday Oct 2 and Saturday Oct 3...

On Friday we need an Assembly Team at the assembly lot (Lot A @ AT&T Park) to supervise the float decoration activities from 12pm to 11pm. We need 2-3 volunteers to be on site at all times. These 2-3 positions can be split up into shifts depending on the hours of availability of the team members. This role is 95% observation and requires that you walk around and monitor assembly activities making sure all the float organizers follow the simple rules. This is a great opportunity to meet float organizers and observe how all the magic comes together from the empty flatbeds and work crews pulling into the lot to the sound checks at the end of the day.

On Saturday morning we need 2-3 people to show up at the assembly lot at 9am to make sure all the floats have left for the staging area by 10:30am. Once the last float leaves, you're done!

At 11am we need a Parade Team of 10 volunteers to meet at 111 Minna Gallery to get organized for parade duties. This team will be spread across the parade caravan monitoring the safe movement of the floats along the parade route and the parking of the floats at the festival grounds. This commitment starts at 11am and ends at 1:15 to 3pm depending on where in the caravan you are. Volunteers are given a choice in where along the route they want to be.

At 8:30pm to 12 midnight, we need 2 volunteers at the assembly lot to monitor the float clean up activities. Reliability in this role is absolutely key! Every year our biggest problem is with deserters in this role so a responsible person who completes this task will be rewarded nicely.

All of these roles are very easy to perform. Half the job is showing up, the other half is paying attention. I am volunteering as much as I can on both days, but because of the sheer scale of things, we need more feet on the ground.

All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt that commemorates their service to this year's event. Other incentives are also possible.

If you are interested in volunteering and a have preference in any of these 4 roles, please contact me at rich@sflovefest.org with what days and hours of availability you have in mind as well as a phone number I can reach you at on those days and your t-shirt size so that I can begin to put a manifest together.

On a final note, if you know of anyone else possibly interested in helping out, please feel free to point them my way.

Thanks!

bumping for more volunteers. i must say i'm quite surprised by the people i know who have the free time and love for this event and yet won't put in a few hours contributing to the cause. i should mention that volunteering has it's incentives beyond a free t-shirt (which will be very nice this year). i can't name all the incentives as that would reveal details about the event that aren't public yet, but one i can mention is all-access to the vip area where the djs hang out when they aren't playing.

Trying to find a way up there. Prob only go up if Michelle can go (cause it'd just be wrong otherwise, know what I mean!?!?), but if we can I am down with helping close shop with the floats.

I'll know 100% by Aug 28th most likely.

As of now, not looking good. I've missed it before, it does indeed suck major hardcore.

Rich, I was serious about the last question I asked you at 10:23pm last night! Supposing you use something that keeps logs.

Posted by Tosh on Aug-21-2009 21:46:

Rich, did you get my PM?

Posted by DaveT on Aug-21-2009 21:52:

And Rich, I was still serious!

Posted by R!CH on Aug-21-2009 23:14:

dave i have no idea what you're talking about. i don't log my ims.

tosh, just read your pm. sounds good. please email me that info along with your t-shirt size to rich@sflovefest.org so that i have a record of it.

pms and ims are not a good way of coordinating with me. emails in that account is how i keep track of everything.

Sorry if I had read the origional post again I would have seen that....

it's all good bro, i got you down... thanks!

this is a last call canvassing for volunteers!

anyone who wants to be able to look back and say they were a part of making this event happen should commit him or herself now.

our float producer/volunteer orientation meeting is on sept 29th and that's when the names are locked in and the shirts are printed.

once again volunteers pay no entry fee and get all access to the event including artist/vip area at the asian art museum, which is closed off to public.

if you are trying to be an integral part of the scene in sf and aren't already well-connected, this opportunity is the ideal context in which to meet all of the movers and shakers of the city.
