fao: linguists (dresden codex request)

i'm looking for a site/book/source that provides a translation/explanation of the mayan dresden codex. also, maybe a source for photos of the actual codex pages

i know of:

http://user.online.be/felixverbelen/cxd5158_1054web.pdf

however, i've never received an e-mail back regarding my requests for the original codex scripts as listed in the pdf

any help/guidance would be nice, thanks

I'm going to have some pizza now and I'll be back in a couple of hours... I just skimmed over it and I need to do some more reading myself. Meanwhile, can you tell us whether you've got any training in linguistics and/or anthropology? Otherwise, I don't think this is going anywhere as it looks quite complex

i've studied mayan glyphs quite a bit. i'm interested in the artwork inside the codex, but mainly the astronomical/astrological data the pdf references, which is why i was hoping for maybe some .txt tables

Well, just tried to read it quickly now, but I'm not sure learning the Mayan script will be of any use, given how they're talking mostly about astronomy (notice how almost all books they cited are astronomical works) and that you'd need to learn the basics of the language as well.

From deep inside my heart, I must warn you that don't think this is going to be much fruitful, given how different the Mayan language is from what we are used to, as speakers of European languages. If you want to have some fun with the codices, however, you should first try to learn something about the Mayan language(s) spoken in the Yucatá peninsula and then - only then - you can have fun reading the script which, by the way, has not been completely cracked yet.
