Does anybody here use one?
How has it been working for you? I notice it i very complex.
At 2k (in the used market) this is quite expensive. Before I drop my paycheck on one I would like your opinion.
I notice that this has 16 jacks at the back. Does this mean that I can route separate parts to my mackie hardware mixer instead of having to record everything in the computer and layer?
So for example can I have one part doing the bass one part doing a lead ect and route them to different outputs and process them separately? (I know this is possible with the virus synth)

What bad batch? Release Numbers?
I plan on buying one. The multitimbral features of this is what caught my attention.
The ability to patch parts to different outputs.

My ears are ringing.

About the bad batch, it was just a single run that had a few voices that wouldn't tune. If the Andromeda's Auto Tune feature has 16 "T"s, one for each voice, then it's good to go. It's forever scarred the instrument, unfortunately, but in reality, probably only about 8% of Andromedas suffer from the problem. And I base that statistic on absolutely nothing.

ACTUALLY... if you do find one that has some bad voices, it may be a great deal on your part to pick it up. You can disable the bad voices in the global settings and thus would just have a 10 (or whatever) voice Andromeda for probably not much more than $1,200.

As far as the instrument itself goes, it's awesome. Best poly analog I've run across. If you want a sense of what it's like, take a look at Arturia's Jupiter 8v. It's pretty similar. But where ever the Jupiter 8v fails, the Andromeda picks up. The envelopes are better, the andromeda has A LOT more features per voice, and the Jupiter 8v also suffers from some issues with phasing on its square wave.

I don't like the Andromeda's size/weight, though. It's a beast and would be nice if Numark haden't cancelled the rack module. Basterds. Maybe there's still hope for one, but I doubt we'll ever see it.

Yes. The Andromeda is capable of acting as 16 mono-synths, each with their own MIDI channel and mono output, or anywhere in between. BUT, if you're going to use those outputs, you're best off hooking them all up or else they can only be used on mono patches effectively.

You'll want this cable to hook up the direct voice outputs since each output has the first voice on the left channel and the second voice on the right channel : http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/STP202/

Without using the direct voice outputs, you can have two "Main" outputs that can effectively route mono, poly, and unison patches. You can have up to two seperate outputs and route as many patches to those outputs as you like (up to 16). I find it's a lot easier to just use the two Main outputs.

I plan on using it as a master keyboard and ''go to'' synth for most parts.
I have sold most of my digital synths but I have some old roland synths here. (juno 106, sh-101, juno2, jx8p) that I plan on keeping around for years to come.

How does the keyboard action of the andromeda feel?

I don't use the Andromeda as my master keyboard because it's too friggin big. It took up all my desk space! I use a cheap M-Audio Keystation 61es I've had lying around.

No issues with the action. Better than the Nord Lead 3, much better than the M-Audio Keystation, but not quite as good as that of the DSI Poly Evolver. The PEK is not a synth I would recommend, but I really liked the keyboard's action. And the light-up mod/pitch wheels.

Hrmm.. Well on the Vapour remix, the bottom-end of the bassline is Andromeda. You can hear it doing a nice sync effect right as the pad ends and the acid lead comes back in around 3/4 through the demo.

But there are tons of videos on YouTube.

I think it�s amazing. It a very capable beast, and I just simply love the tone of it.

btw: the only effect I used was reverb.

if the track katana - alesis was made with it then it rocks, caus all the sounds in that track are very special and really airy somehow.

The closest you're going to get to a rack of the Andromeda at any point in the foreseeable future is the Studio Electronics Omega 8. Hope you can afford one!

It's all about VSTis these days. DSI is making great strides in showing there is still a huge market for good ol' fashioned analog. I'm hoping that most new hardware synths that come out will be analog while VSTis become the new "Virtual Analog" or "Analog Modeling".
