naan's not a traditional food eaten across India. It's eaten mostly in the northern parts of India. we make a different kind of wheat bread at our homes.

Posted by Slylee on Aug-15-2009 17:13:

Really? I thought naan was like Indian pizza! What kind of bread do you eat then?

There's no naan in Brasilia, can you believe that? I went to a "Thai-Indian" restaurant called "naan" and, guess what? THEY DON'T HAVE IT!

Posted by Slylee on Aug-15-2009 17:28:

ive only had indian food that one time when i made a thread about it because i wanted recommendations. the place i went to serves it with a warm raspberry dipping sauce. it was so delish i need to go back there. i could practically walk there it's so close to where i live.

I'm jealous

Can you guys ship some Indians to Brazil? There's over a billion of them in India anyway, it's not like you're going to run out of them

just call any toll free number for any large american corporation and ask tech support for recipes so you can make it yourself.

To make a naan the traditional way, you need a "tandoor", sort of a large coal fired oven (watch the first video). Naan is much thicker than a home made "roti" or "chapati". The naan and roti are made from the same ingredients, but the process of making the breads is different

The third type of a very common Indian bread is called "Puri". It's very similar to roti / chapati, only its smaller in size and instead of baking, it is deep fried in oil. Tastes way better than either roti or naan

That, along with Omega_M's loving contribution and the hiring of a new cleaning lady means the end of my plight! Hooray for home-made Indian food

lol, half a tomato?

Posted by Echo of Silence on Aug-16-2009 00:10:

When I make meals, I often put 1/2 of a tomato on each plate. It adds color.

kinda hard to see the color on that plate since the camera picture looks like shit.

besides, if you're cooking for yourself, why are you trying to be Chef Ramsis from Hell's Kitchen? if no one else is gonna see it...

Posted by Rose on Aug-16-2009 00:22:

lol yeah who cares about "color"? I think tomatoes are nasty anyways.

I guess I'm very sensitive to the appearance of things. I tend to cook with dark green, orange, yellow, purple and red a lot because I like a colorful presentation. Since I'm big on fruits and veggies, its not difficult.

But, yes, if I was cooking for just me, I'd probably have 2 halves of tomatoes on one plate. Cuz I'm too lazy to package up the 2nd half.

i'm not big on vegetables that much; but i'm trying to get back into some. i'm making some chicken right now with rice and green beans.

i always bought can vegetables but never ate them. usually sat there for months before i just donated to a soup kitchen
