Diagnose Pro, because the doctors can't
so, i went to the ER today, and they sent me home cause they didn't know what was wrong with me. here's the skinny.
i've had a reddish, rough-to-the-touch rash all over my body, mainly on my legs, arms, back of neck, ears, and back...sometimes on chest.
yesterday i woke up and my face was swollen, my eyes so puffy i look asian. i took 2 benadryll yesterday and they didn't seem to have much of an effect.
today i woke up after 12 hours of sleep and my face was even more swollen, the swelling had spread to my throat and i was having some difficulty breathing.
i went to the ER and they tested me for strep throat (?) b/c my throat had a lil puss in it. strep test came back negative and they said it was probably a viral infection that i'd just have to let run its course.
the rash gets worse and prickly when it's hot... it's a lil itchy but not too bad. i've taken benadryll and excedrin for discomfort... my whole body feels like i'm wearing a weighted suit. i get a lil dizzy and feel very lethargic.
so
what
is
wrong
with
me
?!?!?!?!

allergic reaction? lol
it's always hard to identify what exactly is causing the reaction i would imagine because it's hard to remember exactly everything you came into contact with before symptoms started.
yeah i thought it was an allergic reaction too, but they didn't seem to think so? i haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary, but i did just move to the boston area like a month ago and there's definitely more like... plants and bugs and shit around here. i live in the freaking forest
it's definitely an allergic reaction. i had the same thing happen to me in the bahamas when i was picking fruit off trees and eating them without washing them. had to fly back to florida and everything and go to the ER and they gave me a shot of steroids and i was better within hours. my eyes were swollen completely shut and had a complete body rash too.
they didn't give you any steroids and/or cortisone injections?
that type of thing can be caused by dosage problems with epilepsy meds, among others. in some of those cases, it can be lethal.

It almost sounds like swine flu which i just got over except for the rash part.
I've had hives from rolling around in grass as a kid. Also from being stung by a bee.
The hives are close enough together that they could be called a "rash", and they started on my fingers and toes and spread from there.
Your face swelling sounds like what I had in Guatemala back when I was 12.
In all cases, they were allergic reactions, and after a week or so, they started to die down and run their course.
Sucks for the 2 weeks of pure itch you have to put up with though. But I would assume, what with my total lack of medical education and all, that you've experienced an allergic reaction from one of the new plants you've been exposed to.
Maybe you walked through a poison oak patch or something and didn't notice.

| Originally posted by inconspicuous epilepsy meds have other applications. I also mentioned that those are just some of the ones that have that effect. essentially, you get a whole-body rash that's also internal and eats away at your organs. it can happen if you start out at too high of a dose or if you stop then restart your dosage without building back into it for a few weeks (like those meds require you do initially). |
I don't know what she's on, if anything. just mentioning it, because it's possible. they're used for a few different mood disorders. I don't know how you're supposed to fix it. if you're taking anything, just call the dr. who prescribed it.
one of my roommates had one prescribed & said it was the first thing the dr. said to not do (skip doses), because of that.

I'm allergic to 9 zillion and 2 things and how you are describing yourself now is exactly how I am when I am experiencing an allergic reaction. I think you should go back to the doctor because when the swelling starts inside your throat it can progress (get worse).
So plus Juan to Jamie.
But my allergic reactions are always quickly diagnosed. You know they look at me, laugh at me, give me a shot, and send me on my way.
Seems odd that they didn't seem to think you're having an allergic reaction.
I suppose if you want to self medicate, you could buy that cortizone creme at a drug store and take some over the counter allergy medication.
Did you go walking in the wild of late? Almost sounds like a bad reaction to poison ivy.
Definitely sounds like an allergic reaction. Go to another doctor or hospital.

doesn't match up with the rash party, but did they test for mono? cause all the swelling and puss in the throat sound like it. and since it's a virus you just "run it's course"
(or until you start puking in the doctor's office and they're like, "HEY! GET THIS MAN IN IV!")
So they didn't even do a blood test? wtf, go to another hospital. That one is useless.
it's lupus
