Union Jack - Pylon Pigs + Club EP

Pylon Pigs......

Kicking of their latest set, recent album precursor �Papillon� wastes no time dropping some bass propelled arpeggio goodness, as Simon and Paul lay down the grooves for Union Jack�s depth and power to take centre stage.

�Submerge� drips with string-driven melodic beauty that envelops you in its liquid riffs before �Triclops� growling bottom end and hypnotic chops draw you in deeper still.

�Longhorn�s pounding heart is peppered with off kilter riffs before the rail-track rhythms of �Mainlining� take over, guiding you on an aural expedition that dovetails with the off beat pads of �Blink� that draws you into its snaking harmonies.

�Lifeblood�s comb-filtered vocal samples and sinister synths provide a gentle interlude before �Vowel�s minimal bass and percussion develop into an expansive excursion, taking you into Pylon Pigs� home straight.

The �Dark Major�s jazzy lilting pulse is interspersed with warped glitch before �Funnelweb�s epic rolling riffs completes a stunning return for Union Jack.

PYLON PIGS will be released 14th September on CD and download.

This will be followed a week later by the digital only PYLON PIGS CLUB EP containing DJ friendly club mixes of 3 album tracks, and 2 exclusive tracks - 'Vocoder Allstars' and 'Two Full Moons And A Trout' (Orkedia Remix).

This is some great news for those, who are anticipating this album, because just one week earlier it was scheduled for 12th October.

"Triclops" can be found on youtube, while "Longhorn" is available for free download through Union Jack myspace page, after adding an e-mail to the list.

Awesome. Can't fucking wait for the album.

Does this means that the album will all be made of edited (likely shorter) versions?

Orkidea's remix of Two Full Moons.. is finally getting out officially. Been hearing it around here for ages.

I'm also excited about that. It's been in the making for ten months or so and Orkidea was still adding some new elements to it.
If someone would like to hear the difference between the 'beta' versions, just compare the one he played in his Scandinavia 002 Mix and a few months later - in Radio Unity.

Being a longtime Platipus, Union Jack and Two Full Moons fan I'm also very excited to have the remix officially released It actually changed even more before the release based on some comments from Simon Berry. Took 18 months to finish hehe

And btw the album is absolutely brilliant!! Got a sneak preview promo copy some weeks ago and it's so far the #1 EDM album of the year to me. Old school and innovative at the same time. Not an easy combo to achieve! 10/10

Its been a while (eleven years to be exact) since Union Jack released their last single, CockRoach / Yeti, on Platipus Records. In that time the trance scene has become somewhat lost, so much so that its a rare treat when anything original or inspirational lands in my CD deck. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard the news that founder Union Jack member and Platipus label boss Simon Berry was planning a comeback with a new album in the pipeline, joined this time by long time Platipus collaborator Paul Brogden (formally POB on Seismic Records and Granny with Claudio Guissani).

So, after their extended sabbatical, it relieves me to say that you won't be disappointed with this new material, with Pylon Pigs serving up a dynamic selection of up and downbeat numbers for on and off the dancefloor alike.The two pre-album singles, Papillon and Funnelweb, released electronically prior to the release of Pylon Pigs, form the bookends to the new album. Both of these tracks are solid, no-nonsense, driving, rolling trancers which set high expectations for the rest of the album.

Following the deep rolling beats, dramatic strings and vocoder spoken vocals of Papillion is the first of the down-tempo tracks, Submerge, which is a deeply hypnotic and moving, if not slightly melancholic. Triclops picks the pace back up again, with deep growling 303's and powerful dramatic chords, leading into the twisted pounding depths of Longhorn, with dark undercurrents driven by Eastern sounding horns. Mainlining provides a second breather, with a seven minute audio steam train journey across Europe, before arriving at my favourite track on the new album, Blink. Summer feel-good vibes, bouncy housey beats, smile inducing chords and the same vocoder spoken vocals that feature on Papillion all add to this infectious number. Sample spotters will delight at the short (if not sinister) interlude of Lifeblood, before the bouncy minimalistic beats of Vowel gradually build with layers of analogue electronica. The Dark Major is the last of the downbeat selections, meandering into playful jazzy lounge territory with a hint of twisted electronica (although far from dark, as the title suggests), before the deep rolling beats and cascading strings of Funnelweb kick arse to close the album.

As comback albums go, Pylon Pigs is an unresounding success and gets a big thumbs up from myself. No doubt former fans of Union Jack will take sanctuary in this new material, where the sound is undoubtedly that of the old Union Jack that we all knew and loved from the 90�s, just with a bit of a naughties polish. Welcome back.

Happy to see it has ended just as we predicted here, back in January.

The complexity and overall atmosphere is where this album stands out. They're not just ten separate tracks that go one after another like singles, which is pretty uncommon these days when it comes to trance albums. 'Longhorn', given for free some time ago, hasn't grabbed my attention as much as it later did, when I listened to it on the album, kicking right after the uplifting beats of 'Triclops'. Fantastic flow.
Finally, 'Pylon Pigs' manages to reproduce the spirit of "There Will Be No Armageddon" but at the same time it shouldn't appear dated to any listener that isn't familiar with Union Jack's 90s' output.

Muhaha.

Just ordered my copy from Platipus. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Listening to the new Union Jack always makes me want to break out the Moog, make some tracks with classic sounds like these and join in the revival.
