Question Looking for help with buying a new LCD TV

Hey guys,

I am in the market for a new TV. It comes down to two options for me based on what I can afford and what is practical for my place. I don't know much about TVs, but based on my research it came down to two best options. It's a tie between Sony Bravia 40" 1080p LCD HDTV and Sharp Aquos 40" 1080p LCD HDTV. The price is pretty much the same, and I hear that both of these are very good TVs.

In terms of picture quality and durability and other special features that I don't know about, which one would you recommend?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I would go with Sharp (although my TV is Samsung).

Go with the Sharp

I'd also go with the Sharp. But I'm biased against Sony.

Sasha, what are the model numbers?

There is no way those two TV's should be the same price, as Sony's are always more expensive for the size, and quality.

I hate the Sony the company, but god be damned they make some incredible looking TV's.

Hey Bobby,

Here is the link for Sony, I think the model is KDL40S5100

This is Sharp link, the model is LC40E67U:

The both are just a bit under a grand.

After doing the comparison, the Sony is just a bit better IMO.

In the end, I would go to the store, actually look at them, and see which one you like better. Also, make sure to use the actual remotes, and menu's, since you will be living with the TV for a long time. There isn't a whole lot of diff, so choose the one you like USING the best.

I am not a huge fan of the Sharpe interfaces, menus, and so. I don't have too much experience with newer Sony's. I just drool over them in the store.

I'm in the same boat here kinda....

looking to get a new TV, wanting to spend around $1000, & would like it to be around 32".....

anyone has any suggestions what I should be looking at???

Edit: not to concerned about it being 1080 over 720, as I'm only going to be using it to watch TV occasionally, not into gaming or bluray so much. Also want it to be a brand name, not some no name shyteee

Posted by cammaxwell on Aug-18-2009 18:33:

I have a Sharp Aquos and it's great!

I also had a Sony Bravia a couple years ago and it was ok, although I did need to get the first replaced because it had issues...

Posted by Banelord on Aug-18-2009 19:05:

I have a samsung myself but if I did not get that, I would have bought the sharp.

Posted by SasH21 on Aug-18-2009 19:09:

Wow Sharp is definitely dominating here.

I think I will go to the store and compare the two in terms of the look, remote, menu, etc...how Bobby suggested. For now, it definitely seems like a sharp. One of the things that was attracting me to SONY was the deal that they had for just over a grand, where you could also get a link module DVD player...but I wonder if I could buy that separately even if I go with Sharp. Can these two brands work together?

Link

the DVD player looks very slick!

Just go to Costco. You don't like it within 3 months? They'll give you your money back. No hassles.

Sony and Samsung used to make their panels in the same factory, but Sony now teamed up with Sharp because they took heat for teaming up with a Koream manufacturer (samsung).

Costco actually gets special models of a lot of electronics, that are only distributed in their stores. Which makes it very hard to shop around, and impossible to price match.

I would check them out for sure, they have great quality products.
