hobbies as a kid

i just went to the arts & crafts store to pick up some acrylic paint because we have this random white plaster/statue-ish elephant in our house that was left behind and i wanna paint it all kinds of cool colors.

here it is

anyway i was at the store and i had a flashback of this gay ass hobby i had when i was around 11 i think. i used to buy those little mini straw hats and i had a hot glue gun and jewels and lace and ribbons and i made all these crazy hats with flowers on them and fish net stuff, etc...

did anyone get into some weird shit like that when you were little?

I used to play with action figures. Once I held a funeral in my backyard with all my other action figures for one that died (aka: broke).

My parents told me that when I was really little, like three or four, I had a small hammer and would go outside and hammer on things all day. To this day I still enjoy hammering when putting furniture together or fixing stuff.

running away from/making friends with gang members

Forgot to mention, I used to play barbies with my cousin, I loved to dress them up and we'd make ken have sex with them.

Edit: oooh, I remember I had this toy story doll, the cowboy one (forgot his name...) and I used to mix water, toothpaste and playdoh and all kinds of weird stuff and brush his teeth.

When I was a few years older I collected coins and rocks, probably to copy my dad who is a geologist and used to have a coin collection.

...not to suggest that my enthusiasm for this game has waned upon becoming an adult, mind you.

- putting together plastic models of fighter planes, aircraft carriers, submarines and trains
- learning to code with BASIC on the commodore 64
- playing nintendo

It really says something about how your life is going to turn out when you can write basic applications before you can read properly...

EDIT: oh yes and paying guitar, i started that early as well. Probably the only other cool thing i picked up in my entire life

Model airplanes and model rockets.

Which I would probably get back into given the chance...

This, as well.

Though my childhood model building experiences were invariably accompanied by a slowly developing sense of anger/sadness upon realizing that my model is going to look nothing like the one on the side of the box, in which case I wound shelving it among the rest of my 'to (never) be completed' projects.

Fuck Revel.

Hahaha...

Yea thats how a majority of my projects ended up.

God damn water whatever decals. They always fucking ripped!!!

I forgot to add model trains, those rocked cause they almost always came nicely painted and shit.

If I had lots of money to blow I would build a HUGE model rail road...

i used to draw and make horrible music playing guitar, my friends did drums and harmonica. we did a concert for my parents and neighbors, we had a band called pink floyd. we didn't even know of pink floyd, we just heard my brothers talk about someone called pink floyd, so we went with it

it was not successful

for the most part, i was outside riding my bike and climbing trees and catching tadpoles but i definitely got into a few artsy weird things like the hats and drawing scenerios...like a girl in a dressing room backstage LOL omg i'm gonna try to re-create what i used to draw a lot. i was also good at drawing faces...the kind that a sketch artist would do.

also calvin & hobbes & barbies

Ahhh yes, I still have every single book.

I used to read and draw a lot when I was a kid, sadly I've slipped on both fronts.

I mainly had a thing for planes at the time, so I never really got into cars and trains.

So in other words, I made a bunch of primer fuselages without any landing gear; and if the decals were attached to anything, it was to my wet fingers.

You know that you've more or less given up on making a decent model when you look at all the small parts you can't manage to make stick as "extra parts you don't really need"- you know, insignificant embellishments like wings and propellers.

Ah, what a trip down some of memory lane's more dark corridors.

yea drawing was a big thing for me. i have several artists in my family. one is a professional but my nana and even my mom are great at water colors and pencil drawings of the beach or whatever is in front of them.

lol my mom told me one time she came home from a jimmy hendrix concert on acid and she painted this awesome picture of jimmy hendrix while tripping and even when she was sober, it looked awesome, but her mom threw it out because she found out my mom was taking drugs when she painted it

lotta out doors shit too. Bikes, swimming, basketball... haha when I moved to Florida from Bostom at age 8, I had never seen a lizard before and spent at least 2 years catching them. Loved those little bastards.
