acid?

im having trouble achieving the great acidic kinda weird background sounds that are used in alot of trance

similar to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlVPHggY1zw

from 30 seconds to 50 seconds

theres that really cool background sound getting more higher pitched and then coming down..

anyone?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBNu7WdrE98

another example. from 1:36 to 1:56

ya i thinks its pretty obvious theres filter/res automation but even then

would i use a bass patch?

or a leaD?

i wouldnt even know where to begin for the midi notes for sounds like that?

just create a interesting riff pattern you like first or some blips to get you going and use your tbs and take it from there

sorry its the name for acid Roland 303's most synths have then built in these days.

depends what your using. i use the es1 in logic with alot of lfo, delay, reverb, sidechain and filter the lfo rate throughout the track.

What exactly do you mean by "most synths have a TB303 built into them"?

Posted by Kysora on Aug-23-2009 03:02:

I have a VSTi called Crystal that has a similar sounding effect, but it's a bit more distorted. I don't know if it's worth getting a completely different VSTi for it though, since pretty much any "sync" patch can be automated well enough to do that.

i have vangard, sytrus, sylenth all of witch have built in emulators of tbs/acid

Your best bet for the general "high resonance" sound category that includes acid might be to get another (less expensive) analog synth:

do u mean it have square and saw osc and 24dB LP filter?
thats really all u need to make some 303 sounding shit.
though it will never be as dirty as the real thing!

wow, that first one is so pretty. throw in a really big saw pad and you got a great dream trance song. and a really thin white noise sweep would go well. and a tambourine.

it would be perfect.

Thanks, maybe I'll try that.

I like this one as well: http://jbj.raceriv.com/sounds/littl...ance-sounds.mp3

Unfortunately I don't think I saved the riff or patch.

great work. I've been wanting this on my track as well.

Posted by adi_hanson on Aug-23-2009 18:52:

Vanguard was used in this remix of seven cities , just eq'ed a little then automated the filter cutoff. So giving that lower to higher sound you want.

BTW, if you're looking for VSTs that specialize in the acid sound, here are a few to check out:

Propellerhead ReBirth (free)

d16 Phoscyon (not free)

AudioRealism Bassline 2 is by far the best 303 clone.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Aug-24-2009 02:08:

Yeah, I like ABL 2 as well. Here is ABL 2 bassline run through Guitar Rig for distortion:
