anybody buying a ps3 slim tomorrow?

i'm not!

Posted by Capitalizt on Aug-25-2009 23:52:

hell no..PS3 Phat FTW.

Out of the 3 things I need to see from the PS3 before I buy one, they've completed the least-important step. YAY!

Now they just need to re-design their controller and release some games worth playing.

Posted by Capitalizt on Aug-26-2009 02:18:

The PS3 has the best controller of any system..like...ever.

And there are plenty of good games.. The downloadable titles alone are worth it IMO.

Since when? Its the same controller as the PS2 and before that the PSX only without ff so its actually worse (yes i know they changed that with ds3, but according to sony before the ps3 was released ff is so last gen that they just wont bother with it).

I don't know what the hell ff means but the Dual Shock 3 is extremely comfortable. They changed the weight and the sculpting slightly over the PS2 model..added analog sensitivity for the buttons themselves, and all sorts of good stuff. It feels right and works well for every type of game IMO.

What? DS3 is the best controller of any console to this day

I'm assuming when you type 'ff', you are abbreviating 'force feedback'? I was just checking...

Anyway, Sony has had a lot of shitty PR this generation, and their claiming rumble was 'last generation', only to then, a year later, throw it back on with the Dual Shock 3, doesn't bode well with their image.

That being said, if you ask me, the Dual Shock 3 is the best controller of them all. But that's coming from a person who loved the Dual Shock 1 and 2, and thought they were the definition(s) of quality gaming accessories. The Sixaxis was fine, but I don't like it's lack of solid weight...it feels rather cheap. The DS3 feels more substantial, still sports the motion sensors, and has the Playstation controller interface that's been around since the 90's.

One could argue that FPS's are done better with the 360 remote, since having the joysticks side by side (as is the case with the PS1/2/3) isn't as easy to maneuver as having them go diagonal (as is the case with the 360). But the PS3 remote absolutely steamrolls the 360's shitty ass D-pad. And I've always loved the triggers of the PS3 controller over anything Microsoft has had to offer. So the Dual Shock wins in my book.

As for buying a PS3 Slim...My 20GB fatty PS3 with PS2 BC is doing me just fine.

the 360s analog sticks are better, because they're concaved. holds your thumb better.

Posted by Fledz on Aug-31-2009 08:45:

The Xbox controllers are far better and more comfortable. Why? Because they were designed for people of all races with many different sizes of hands, not solely for Asians with smaller hands than European toddlers.

I enjoy playing SF4 on xbox controllers better then PS3, and I play both alot. Analogue on PS3 is wonky and registers the most random moves when im playing. In realyity I need a joystick

I love my PS3, but ill give xbox the edge on the controller.

WINNAR!

How Sony could overlook such an obvious design flaw is beyond me, and honestly, it's my only major beef with the controller.

Could the joystick placement be a little more ergonomic? Sure, but holy fuck, at least design the stick to hold my thumb in place. Even the Nintendo stick does a better job of holding my thumb, and the only difference is a few ridges on the top.

It's a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE thing to have your thumb slide off in the middle of a disgusting end-to-end rush in NHL, or as you're trying to mad-scramble through a team of noobs in COD4.

As for a working D-Pad, nothing will match the Genesis D-Pad, but you'd think Sony AND Microsoft would try to make one that's workable for games like SF4 and such. It's harder than it should be to slide the quarter turns and half turns on a Sony controller, and good luck doing ANYTHING right with the Microsoft D-pad.

Only months?

Dude, anyone with half a brain knew they'd put one out when the original PS3 was first unveiled. That thing is a monstrosity.

I'm not planning on buying a PS3 until Gran Turismo 5 comes out. So I'll probably get one in December.

for me it's FF13. that game is the killer app for the ps3 for me.

if sony had both GT5 and FF13 for the launch of PS3, ppl would have bought the console in droves

It's actually pretty amazing how much this matters nowadays.

Compare Super Stardust HD on the PS3 to Geometry Wars on the 360. Both are controlled the exact same way; only the analog sticks. Try playing on the PS3, then try playing on the 360, and you'll immediately realize how important it is that these things have at least something to hold your thumbs in place. The 360 wins this category by default.

But I'm still giving the edge to the DS3 in terms of overall best controller.

Well it definitely would have helped, but in retrospect, I think the initial price of the PS3 killed off a lot of its potential from the get-go. I used to think that even with its outstanding $599.99 debut number, it would still take over the industry like the PS2. But not even a month after launch, it was apparent that wasn't true.

Now that its been reduced to a gamer-budget price, it can do well in the market it's intended for.

The PS3 was essentially priced like an entertainment piece for gadget freaks at first...a Blu-ray player and a game machine wrapped into one for 600 bones is a little beyond the league most gamers are in. Its a smaller market and can't be utilized like previous console generations. The success Sony needed to achieve in order to make it all worth it and profitable was absurd.

At least now its cheap enough where its actually reasonable in the mainstream public's eyes.

Now all they need are some good exclusive games.

And no, a racing game isn't going to cut it.

And FF13 is being released for the 360, so there goes THAT advantage.
