Dj set skipping after recording ?

Hi everyone, I recorded a set straight from my xone 92 to line in. I recorded using the software that came with my creative SB x-fi, and while listening to the recording I noticed it starts to skip. Does anyone know why this happens ? Software cable ? I would also like to know if anyone could point to better recording software?

Thank you for your help in advance guys !!!!!!!!!!!

Try Audacity. I'm not sure what the problem is. Does the skipping only occur when you play the set back in the recording software, or is it also in an exported file?

Make sure your system isn't doing anything in the background while you're recording. Close all open programs and also disable your screensaver since that can cause latency. If you have Vista with the automatic drive indexing when your system is idle, you may want to disable that as well.

yes, skipping usually occurs when your cpu is trying to do other stuff as well as record, run as little as possible when recording unless you know for sure your computer can handle it

Had the same problem with my M-Audio Audiophile 192.
What solved the problem was to increase the ASIO butter size on the soundcard. This will cause a slight delay, but won't be a problem for tasks such as recoring.

Sony Sound Forge works like a wonder as a recording app.

I do not know how to change the ASIO buffer size on my creative sb xfi.
I have tried searching.

I do close out as many programs as possible.

i also restart my computer before i record, make sure it's fresh and there isn't anything running that shouldn't be

are you using windows Vista by any chance? I have an older creative sound card and that gives me heaps of trouble since I installed Vista on my pc. recordings only come out clean sometimes (typically after restarting and having nothing at all running in the background).

I had the same Problem recently with a Tascam US-144 and Vista. I had the latency set high, and it would record fine by every 20 min or so, at random times it would skip for a second.

I cut out alot of processes that were running and disabled the primary sound driver for the notebook. Works alot better now.
