Trace Hazen - Dirge by tracehazen

This is a mix I recorded a couple weeks ago, and was debating on posting. I sort of feel like it was a mild step back for me, but I decided to share anyway. Its nothing terrible, though I think I may have killed the flow a couple times...there are less mixing hiccups than last time. Some really dark, brooding tracks in here, which some of you may not feel. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing some constructive feedback that would help me out of this little rut I've been in.

Actually hit play on this on my morning commute. Still didn't finish, but I will be by the time I get home today. I've enjoyed it so far, will be sure to leave full comments as well.

Must have missed this.

DLing.

I've listened to this twice so far and the experience both times was quite nice. If I dare say, although you've incorporated several forms of techno music (dub, melodic, big room, etc...) I must say that overall this felt quite minimalist in nature. Although no individual track stood out in any particular way for me (save for the first, of course) as a whole this was quite a solid package, and a nice listening experience as well.

I'm not too sure that the initial transition was as smooth as you had hoped, as it was slightly rough on the ears, but it was more due to the tracks conflicting with one another, rather than any faults in your mixing.

Keep this up, I'd say. I bet your next mix is gonna be even better, and I'll certainly be grabbing it whenever it comes around.

This was great, really enjoyed it. I think the last actual set of yours I heard was Cappucino and this was far better than that was. Your flow was spot on in my opinion, nothing seemed really out of place and it felt like the energy carried over well between tracks.

I'm a bit biased as I'm quite the sucker for the darker brooding techno of this nature, but it was still a really solid set in my eyes. Can't wait to hear you open up for Pronsato, keep up the good work man.

Listened last night, really fantastic mix mate. Definitely your best one yet. You opening for Pronsato?

WHO IS WIIJAY

Oh it's fucking Jay isn't it?

Posted by Seppuku on Sep-03-2009 23:01:

Thanks for the listens/comments guys. I guess it turned out better than I had thought.

Yeah, that one was kind of iffy to me. The weird beat kind of throws it off and it sounds a bit clashing. Although I'm sure I could have pulled it off better, I didn't think it sounded completely terrible and just went with it.

I'm not sure, but usually when I see a new user that acts as if he's not new and has a flag that belongs to a British dependency or a country in the Caribbean, I tend to assume that it's him.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-09-2009 15:05:

this was not bad. Towards the middle it got a little long to take, imo if you are going to play very empty tunes try to do more with them! As adam said the first transition was a little um yeah, but overall this was a fun listen.

Keeo it up.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-09-2009 15:06:

ps it is an alt, but not mine.

Posted by Seppuku on Sep-09-2009 15:52:

Thanks.

What exactly would you recommend doing with the more empty tracks?

Layer them on top of fuller tracks \o/

Echoing Jay's sentiment. Overall a jamming set but at times a bit too plink plonk for me.

Posted by woscar's alt on Sep-09-2009 17:24:

Great set mate, been listening to it frequently. I think this is by far, your best effort yet in all departments. Good job!

Posted by Seppuku on Sep-09-2009 19:39:

Haha, why did Oscar get banned?

But yeah...as far as filling out tracks, I've been learning Traktor inside and out and I'm beginning to experiment with some looping and layering. I guess its the creative process of piecing it all together that I need work on. Anyways, its something I'm trying to work on for the next mix. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

LOL, it was like the lamest thing ever. Apparently discussing drunken threads qualifies as a drunken thread.
