In the UK,

is "guv" or "guv'nor" still part of the lingo amongst, er, people round the ages 15-25? I'm asking because I don't if it would be anachronostic on my part, as a writer, to have a character (living in the present) of mine use this word.

Thanks.

yes it still refers to being top dog or boss in most circles manly london and will never really be out dated.

Posted by Sushipunk on Sep-01-2009 23:40:

When I worked in London bars, people would ask to speak to the Guv or the Guv'nor if they were looking for the manager/owner.

when sushipunk worked in london he chugged on a whole lotta cock.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-02-2009 00:06:

It's only used by Cockneys and then only really used to refer to landlords, eel-pie salesmen, top gangsters and other Cockney authority figures.

Is that some sort of stereotype
