ez day 2 review
all i have to say is, menno de fucking jong. jesus christ why doesn't he play more in the us???? absolutely FLAWLESS set and i'm surprised he fit in the riverside tent :P. jerome isma-ae was also pretty damn awesome, even though he played 90% of his tracks and nothing more. didnt drop smile when you kill me though...
markus was markus + extremely pissed at a broken cdj or monitor. mike has the vid of that. ferry was awesome as always, even though he still whores flashover and his own tracks like none other hahaha. gotta love him though!
left when the frenchman came on....when boredom takes over ooooh yeaaaaaaa.
crossing my fingers that i can make it out for halloween for euphonic night. see you all soon!
will post pics and some vids later when i get back to boston. really awesome meeting all the new faces that i hadn't met at previous events.
had a great time at day 2 although the weather was cloudier than expected. people were just streaming in by the busload and I hope made event made a nice (and well-deserved) profit so they would make this event a regular summer thing in nyc.
I've read about some people having an unexpectedly good time listening to some dj's at the event and I'm one of them. I went mainly for markus, atb & ferry but I ended up having the best time watching josh gabriel play. markus did his thing but it wasn't his best set; then again, for 1.5 hours he had enough there to keep people happy. ferry did his thing & atb didn't play the usual bouncing set I usually see from him. too bad I missed jason, jerome & menno.
surprisingly atb's tent wasn't nearly as packed as the other next to his, where minimal techno was being played. wasn't aware of such a following in nyc for that genre at all..but then again I don't go to these minimal shows so I don't know how crowded they get
drinks overpriced as is well-known, bigger cups would have made it a bit better. many people were hanging around outside chugging home-made potions before walking in (guilty) which is a good way to avoid the ridiculous prices. bathrooms were a breeze. tees weren't unreasonably priced at $20 and many people bought those.
big props to made, I'm very glad we have these guys to go to such lengths and do so much hard work to please the edm lovers of nyc. with all the good events they've been responsible for throughout the years now they've reached the freaking pinnacle of events with this one.
today was even better for me. Made did a great job in pulling off one of the biggest events for electronic music in NYC.
Ferry Killed it and I'm shocked to say Guetta also ripped it up, usually not my style but he definitely knows what he's doing.
Finally got a chance to see Markus and ATB as well as Gabriel solo who also delivered awesome sets.
another incredible day. pretty much stayed at the sunday school hilltop exclusively. checked out heidi first thing, she played better then usual. thank god they booked her, there was a real lack of bizarre bootyshakin house haha. guy gerber fucking kiiiiiillllllled! wow! better then his minitek set last year for sure.
matthew dear thew it down only to get shown up by the one and only adam beyer! the guy blows my mind every time i see him. steve bug came on and was playing really deep and groovy, which didn't follow the beyer's sound too well, but he was still playing good, i wish he woulda picked it up more.
went to visit the other stages until hawtin came on. i always wanted to see richie play, but i just couldnt get into him tonight unfortunatly. left after a couple songs to check out the disco set that james murphy was playing at the grove tent. went back to give hawtin another chance, got bored again and left.
i was having way more fun earlier in the day both days. once it gets dark and the tents get packed the crowd just gets annoying and i just dont want to deal with it. give me heidi and 40 people at 1pm over hawtin and thousands at night any time.
fav sets of the festival were carola, gerber, beyer, luciano in that order.
Made Event did it again, another amazing day. I was there mostly for Markus, Ferry, ATB and they all delivered. ATB played a bit harder than he usually does but still had that tent going wild. Markus put on an amazing set...the last 45 minutes was crazy. What the hell was bugging him so hard in the beginning? his CDJ was broken?
Ferry played almost all his own tracks but still good. Took him a few minutes to figure out that the guy before him left the balance knob turned all the way to the left. You figure a guy at his level would do a quick equipment check before starting...but once he figured it out and threw that knob back to the middle there was no stopping him. Also in the middle of his set someone decided to turn on the floodlights in Icahn Stadium, annoying cause it screwed up the lighting on the main stage. Speaking of lighting, good job for the most part -- the guy in charge of the strobes and floods was doing his best to guess ferry's music but you could tell he wasn't very familiar with it. Ohh and they overheated the video system toward the end of Ferry's set - thats when you saw those big red and green x's inside a box on the two big displays on the main stage.
So I also took some time to check out other DJ's I never heard of before. Yesterday this paid off as I discovered and loved Sanchez, Rivera, and Chus and Ceballos. Today I dropped in to hear Masiello and it was all D&B/jungle..is he always like that? Also dropped by James Holden - too much house for my taste. You know who else was too much house....the french guy that came on after Ferry. I stuck around for 2 minutes and ran away to hear ATB....not my cup of tea.
Steve Bug, Calderone, Hawtin, while not exactly what I like, all had a huge following. It was nice that this festival had such a diverse crowd (did you notice moms chaperoning their daughters and whole families at this thing...I know I did, even saw one guy holding his 5 year old son at the Hawtin tent--crazy), not just a bunch of tranceheads like myself.
what an amazing time.
funny enough, the only complaint i have is beyond anyones reach. i was in the front of the main stage for several hours and the dirt from the ground basically flew from the bottom to my friends and i's bodies. by the time we were on the bus back home, it looked like we were either homeless people, or just came back from trench warfare.
anyways, it was a great day. i got there for half of menno and he was incredible. caught part of josh gabriels set right after and that was also enjoyable.
we headed to the main stage for most of steve angellos set. all i know is that he played the melody from "kids" by MGMT, and that literally made my day.
markus was top notch, although i thought he was going to kill someone with the technically problems he started off with. ferry was obviously incredible. closing out with rock your body really got me going.
and i too, surprisingly have to say that guetta absolutely killed it for the first hour. our plan was to stay for a few minutes until ATB got on, but not one of us could move away from the main stage. i mean, hes cheesy, but the first hour was just monster. "im david guetta bitch!" was hilarious.
caught about 30 minutes of ATB - 9pm and one more time were my highlights. after that we headed out a bit earlier than 11 to beat the lines.
once again, it was a rockin' time. it was great to meet jmauro and kick back with him for a bit. im lookin' forward to tiesto baby!
Electric Zoo Festival 2009 = Success
Day 2 was a better day for me than day 1. But Im going to admit that Day 1 was more packed than Day 2.
Buses efficient, entrance efficient, bathrooms plenty, drinks, food, all readily available. Tents, Light System, Sound System, Security. wowow. Made, congrats, you guys did an awesome job planning out this entire event.
Started out with MENNO DE FUKING JONG. OMFG. HIS SET WAS SOOOO SICKKKKKKKKKKK. He freakin dropped southern sun tiesto remix.
. Countless others that I cant remember right now. If he comes to NYC Im there in a heartbeat. He stood up on the cdj table. Crowd was rockin during his set. Theres no way to describe it, first time I see him and I had no words to describe how I felt. It was amazing, it was sick.
After Menno, took a picture with him (thanks to Z), met up with Z finally after a what seems like a year. Im hoping Ferry showed up to the interview Z! Looking forward to seeing it.
I stayed around for Josh Gabriel, hoping he would drop Deep Down, but 10 min later I started walking to the NYTA meetup, and a few seconds later Deep Down comes on hahahaa I run back to front row. It was sick, Josh Gabriel also delivered.
Nice meeting up with all the TAs that came to the meetup. Todays meetup was a success.
After the meetup, walked over to hear Steve Angello with Andrew, Burak, Ravi, Rob and Rory(once again, nice promo). Marcello too for a brief second. once again, steve angello, it was sick. Ran into Brad Miller for a second also and then I met up with diabloargentino and my friend and then Marcus came on and he delivered. As someone mentioned, the expression on Marcus when something was wrong with the sound was extremely noticable. He was pissed yet apologizing to everyone in the crowd at the same time.
FERRY FUCKING CORSTEN. <----- WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. THIS GUY DELIVERED BOMBSSS EVERYWHERE. Right now Im still deciding between Meeno and Ferry for DJ of the day.
When Ferry left, Guetta came on. I felt it for the first two song, then I saw the change coming, and then I started to hear Sexy Bitch as I started to walk. Perfect timing, and I was glad to see at least 500-1000 people leaving the Guetta stage when he dropped Sexy Bitch.
I heard he did a mashup of the Prodigy tho. If anyone has video, would be nice to see that part.
Went over to ATB after 10 min of Guetta.
ATB was amazing also. If you couldnt go his set was similar to the one he played at Pacha in June. He started out with Terra, hinted at 9pm, played Extacy toward the beginning of his set... HE DROPPED some remix of DAFT PUNK - ONE MORE TIME. But ATB, Im impressed, not only by what he played but the fact that he was jumping up and down motivating the crowd even though he had a broken foot. He was walking around with a crutch but was still jumping. He actually took, a short time, to talk to his fans, though Im still not impressed by his relationship with fans, it was literally a minute. All Im going to say is this is where MADE messed up big time. ATB SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE MAIN STAGE TO CLOSE ELECTRIC ZOO, NOT RAPPER DAVID GUETTA.
Saw hellosam again at ATB for a brief moment.
Lasers at Riverside Arena were sick also.
This weekend I listened to many DJs live that I had never heard before at a club or anything. It was nice to hear some of them and now I have more of an idea of who to go to when they come to NYC. It was awesome, the majority played very good sets. lost my own camera on day 1 tho during roger sanchez
. luckily i had a backup and borrowed a camera for sunday and for future events for now.
Overall, the event was a success and Im looking forward to Electric Zoo Festival 2010.
AY STAR, you are a legend man, you know how to party, nice seeing DT with you yesterday. from the guido circle to telling mom to go home, hahaahahaha.
Ferry Corsten played at the afterparty. Anyone that didnt go to the afterparty better have a good reason, lol.
Ill post pictures and videos tomorrow.
i'm about to go to sleep and never wake up again....
i'm sorry everyone, especially u kelly, but ferry corsten suckeddddddd
menno fucking owned my soul...so did victor calderone
and ryan tyas

Wow, what an unexpected day. Day one was great, but day two! Ferry bored me to tears, Markus was awesome, Guetta knocked my socks off.
Thanks to all (Erica, Sameer, Jay, Polly, Wai) who texted me when my favorite pop whore song When Love Takes Over came on. I am so grateful that you support my terrible taste. Unfortunately i missed it because (the biggest surprise of the day) I was absolutely enraptured by LCD Soundsystem. Hello.
Yes I would've liked cheaper beer and wine but barring that, I am unbelievably impressed about this event. Praying for next year...
*edit* Um, Apple Bottom Jeans, really? Who knew?

Day 2 pwned Day 1 !!!
got there at the get-go and was planning on checking out the tom middleton chillout set, but i liked what jason jollins was spinning so i caught his set instead. wound up staying in the tent for jerome isma-ae who was great. peeped about 45 min of guy gerber and came back for the end of menno who had the riverside tent rocking.
steve angello at the main stage was dope but did anyone notice 3/4 of the tracks were mixed without headphones wtf... markus was good despite the cdjs not working. caught the beginning of ferry who was putting me to sleep so i bounced.
i'd planned on going to calderone when i walked by james holden's tent and the sounds lured me in -- this was easily the best set of the night. holden was ridiculous.
caught a little of each of the main closers and bounced early.
---
respect to made for flawlesly putting this together (and to the weather for cooperating)
---
great hanging with roninmess, gavin, tj, corinne and their peeps and many thanks to the cubana pequea for introducing me to a boatload of TAs and to el presidente swamper.

Had a total blast at day 2 - got to meet Kadomony and we saw a lot of DJs together, since our taste in music is pretty similar... saw a bit of the Middleton chillout set, and later ran into him at the Grove Discoteque. Saw and met Jason Jollins (nice deep house - prog set), saw Chateau Flight, Lindstrom, Prins Thomas, Frankie Knuckles... met a few cool TA's at the meetup (this one seemed to be much more successful).
Desyn threw us all a curveball with a High-Contrast style D&B set, not what I was expecting but still awesome... Ferry was the only trance DJ I saw, since I'm not too into trance anymore, but he still knows how to rock the party. Finished with a bit of Holden (nice lightshow in the Riverside tent) and the LCD Soundsystem oldskool disco set, great way to end the night.
Once again, absolutely amazing festival and I dare say I had more fun here than at Ultra.
My take on Day 2 - long and meandering
Took forever to get to NYC from Philly, but once I got to the Sunday School tent & met so many NYTA's, it was all worth it... Can't remember many names, but these were ppl off the top of my head I saw at Audion.
robdawg, coolestrl, tubularbills, hellosam, online poker pal phrequency frank, kadomony and a dozen other people...ran into other TA's later on like Zack & Kerrine. Sorry I didn't see jonnypmo - haven't seen him in ages.
I was very excited for Audion, but I was too distracted by the meet up to get into it. But I'm one of those people who has to focus completely on the music to enjoy it.
I bounced around for a while not enjoying myself at all...Adam Beyer, Tom Middleton and I even tried Steve Angello, but the main stage was too crowded for me to enjoy anything.
I ended up right up front at Desyn Masiello with kadomony (Sam) & Luke (hey, I can't remember his TA name). That is when the festival clicked for me. Being right up front to hear the music made the difference in the world. Desyn threw down a DnB set, which blew my mind and had a blast dancing. Sam was track spotting for me, which made it even more fun.
(Btw, Luke. Who was the girl talking to you? She was cute and obviously was into you. Did you get her number?)
Because I was up front for Desyn, I decided to continue with being up front. I stayed for Nathan Fake's set - extreme intense, driving and relentless music. I've always wanted to hear him spin and he did not disappoint. The only annoyance were the constant cameras blocking my view.
I was crushed up front during James Holden. A woman kept leaning against me while she took meandering video of the Holden (It was weird, she kept turning around and around, so her video is probably going to suck). I didn't tell her to stop because she seemed nice enough (if a guy did that, i'd tell him to quit it). Eventually, I got tired of not being able to dance and ended up sitting down and having dinner for the rest of his set.
To close, I managed to slip into a spot where I had a perfect view of Richie Hawtin. I wasn't right up front, but pretty damned close. I had a completely unobstructed view of him spinning. He was doing peak hour techno & I completely died by the music. It was really emotional for me...I kept screaming and saying "omigod." Some guy was trying to chat me up next to me & I was like, "uhh, please leave me alone."
I did try to listen to David Guetta because I was curious. He was playing some song that repeated his name over & over and something about getting your butt in the air. That put me off immediately so I ran for the hills.
Would have liked to have seen Ferry, but I did get my trance on at the Love afterparty. I saw Big Mike spin for a while and had a great time to Marcus Schossow. Listening to trance at Love where it wasn't packed and the crowd really loved the music reminded me how trance is so great. Love is such an amazing venue. Wish we had a place like that in Philly.
Fucking amazing day people. Sorry I didn't get to see more of you.
Will post up pics on Facebook later and link you to them...
Caroline
aite review for day number 2
started off getting there right in time for jerome...really good proggy set i was deff enjoying it, even tho he mostly played his own stuff but it still was not bad...towards the end the vibe from the crowd was just unreal, between the circle we had going and everyone danceing...to hollywood makeing an apperience and just getting everyone pumped, and everyone else just feeling the music deff one of the highlights of the day
menno came on and for the most part i wassent really too impressed with his set, i was expecting some more uplifting and melodic trance, but he had an early set so he had to keep it down a lil bit
but southern sun wow simply amazing
went to the ta meetup, that was deff a zoo within itself
were all a bunch of characters ha ha ha but yea it was deff fun chilling and meeting everyone
next up i heard 30 min of angello and he was not bad
then went back over to the sunday school tent and caught the last 20 min of beyer HOLY SHIT guy was dropping heat i wish i would have heard more of his set
next on was markus, even tho he had equitment problems in the begining he still managed to deliver a great set...even tho again it was mostly his own tracks,remixes,edit...the flow and programming was very enjoyable he is a great technical dj and his set was prob my fav from the main stage of the day
ferry came on and i dunno i know people on here love him, but iam just gettin old i guess and i just have no desire to hear his own songs for the whole night so i left
calderone all i have to say is LAWD HAVE MERCYYYYYYYYYYYY
guy was fukin droping bombsssssss, and the vibe was just threw the roof he had the crowd by the balls, that was prob my fav set from the sunday school tent from sunday that i heard, guy was just straight up relentless and iam glad to see him starting to play for more techno based dj's and booked a venue this crazy, cause he seriously deserves it
hawtin started off madd weird, like the first 5 min was just noise then he brought in the kick and the bassline and percusion i stayed for a few it was ok but then i left and went over the riverside...but on my way out i stopped in for a min and hawtin picked it up a lil bit
atb was atb at pacha a few trance songs, lots of vocals and his own stuff it was an ok set
i honestly enjoyed sat more i felt the crowd was alot better, more of a good vibe and the music was also better imo
minus a few douchebag people it was still an enjoyable day
shoutouts to all the ta's i was just hanging with all day and just trooping from differnt dj to differnt dj
glad to see this event was great, lots of diff people all coming together to just have a good day and be outdoors and listen to some beats
i hope this event was a sucess and i will deff be back next year if it was
again thanks everyone these past 2 days were simply euphoric

I didn't get the girl's # but got her Facebook info... she is from the Boston area unfortunately but I told her if she's ever in town to let me know and we can go to a show together. Glad you had a great time and it was a pleasure getting to meet you!
stayed at the main stage through out. really nice lineup started listening when Steve Angello went on. good variety of beats. been a while since i've seen ferry and just loved it ! he brought the old school at the end.
I am seriously fed up with some of the guetta songs cuz they replay them 10 millions times on the radio but I gotta say listening to them live makes the listening trend refresh back to zero. David Guetta turned the whole place upside down. fucking dirty bastard.
dirty dirty bastard !
Haha, Luke...glad I know who you are on TA now. Too bad the girl lives in Boston - I think you should make a visit up there. Lots of great music there - ask hellosam, she'll tell you.
P.S. You should come visit Philly too - Sam and I could show you around.
Most GODDAMN EPIC Moment of MY LIFE!
This review is the most important - the rest can wait.
Audion was his usual.. Deep, Dark, Sexy, Psychopathic.
During his last song he plays this loud noisey/bassy song for just over a minute. The song begins to build and build and the crowd is going CRAZY! Hands are in the air, people are screaming wanting this song to just break already!!
***silence***
Audion turns off the music and people just get even more crazy thinking this is all hype for him to turn back this crazy song.
Nope.
Audion blows a kiss to the crowd and walks away.
THE BIGGEST dick tease of-my-life. I think everyone walked away with a bad case of blue balls. I can not believe he teased the crowd like that. sooooo nasty. He even finished his set 5 mins earlier, FFS!
omg it was so delish. I got it all on video. Sorry for the super shaky start but I beg you all to watch this and imagine if a dj lowers the volume to rile the crowd up and never turns it back on. o-man. I love u Mr Dear. You complete mind fuk.
lol, don't know I missed the thread... thanks GHboy
I got there at 630 because it took me forever to get from hempstead to that god damn ferry. I am driving next year. fuck the frail shit.
But anyway, I got there in time to catch an hour of Schulz, he was dope, banged out, etc.
Ferry came on and tore the place to shreds imo. He really looked like he was having a great time too, bouncing and smiling. It was sick. He played a ton of sick tracks, I have to say my fave of the night was probably L.E.F. at the end (im a sucker for it)
But for me.. my highlight of day 2, which made the whole fucking process of getting to Randall's Island all worth it, was richie hawtin. I've been listening to techno or minimal or whatever for i dunno, a year and a half? And what I expected to hear and what he played were just so diff. Richie was absolutely relentless. He banged out so hard!! He spun harder than anyone I've heard in a long long time. It was just thumping bass and cracky noises and ill effects the whole freakin time. A friend of mine who was taking photos on stage said that rich had a guitar pedal hooked into his mixer. How ill is that.. He definitely stole the show for me.
after party at love was great. I left around 3, but like... schossow was spinning pretty damn hard himself. And the fact that a certain 6'6" individual was hangin out was cool too.
Overall, great day great evening. Great 2 days. Great weekend!!! I cannot wait for next year. Made Event cleaned up at this thing.
hoo man, havent been to something like this in years.
who i saw:
Jason Jollins - nice warmup set to groove to and meet some people. seemed like the riverside tent had some problems with the high-mids.
but that's just me being an audiophile.
Chateau Flight, Lindstrom, Prins Thomas - pretty cool, nice funky stuff. After the reviews of Menno, though and hearing his podcast after EZ, I probably would've liked to see him.
Prins Thomas was actually playing some real 80s vinyl!
He dropped this:
Which was awesome cause I knew Ferry was gonna play We Belong later
Lindstrom wasn't really keeping the energy, so I had no problem heading to the TA meetup at 4. Good seein everyone
Headed to Frankie Knuckles and Love Affair after the TA meetup. Reallllly nice! Funky kinda energetic classic melodic house. Met Tom Middleton over there too. Nice guy
Then headed to see OMG DESYN!
He started off playing some stuff in his usual style, then kicked it over to D&B for the rest of his set.
I got a chance to talk to him afterwards; he said "everyone is doing 4/4 house here and expecting it, so i decided to switch it up"
hey good on him for goin with something creative
After Desyn, took a break, got a drink and walked around for a bit.
Headed over to Ferry \o/
Caught the last tracks of Markus and then all of Ferry.
After Ferry, I wandered between Hawtin (eh not my style anymore), ATB (actually playing some really good trance, stayed there for a bit), then ultimately ended up @ James Murphy and Pat Mahoney.
This was awesome, as they were playing classic disco
Stayed there til about 10:30 and bounced out.
As for an afterparty, it was some messy combination of heading over to my friend's dorm @ NYU, meeting some other people, going to another dorm, starting to drink, getting busted by the RA (they were all under 21
), leaving, wandering around for 2 fucking hours while this d-bag hipster kid tried to figure out what he was doing, getting pissed at him and leaving, buying seme crappy "wine product" (wtf is that), realizing we didnt have a corkscrew, going to walgreens to get one, contemplating drinking at union square park, going back to the 1st dorm and drinking there while room raving to menno's podcast.
Pics and vids later

really wanted to go but my friend's dorm was my place to sleep for the night, so had to make sure that worked out.
Was really cool meeting some of you. My day was Dear, Tom Middleton, The Bug, Holden and Prins Thomas at night in Brooklyn. Sick, Sick day.
Day one >>>>> day two
musically, day one just destroyed from start to finish, so I gotta give it to day one, by a landslide.
I still cant get over day one and the beats being brought. just WOW.
anyways, not to put down day two, because it was fab-u-lous!! I really dont even have any complaints about day two, either!!
I cant believe how DIFFERENT day one and day two felt....totally different vibe IMO. Day One felt way more packed and had a different crowd.
So day two:
trance-in-yo pants!!!!
jerome: Totally BANGABLE.
Menno: Loved menno. I always love him because you have no idea what to expect from him, and yesterday was no different. Loved that he did his signature "jump on the CDJ's move" which is soo much cooler than the jesus pose that everyone is whoring out. ha! I love menno, he is a nerdy ladies man. ha! Thanks to him for choosing tequila and ruining my liver, and for teaching funny handshakes and leg-grabs (which, by the way, is nearly impossible to do with a 5'0" person and a 6'8" person haha!) the dude rocks and parties hard.
Angello: I love Wai for talking about him so much. beause of her I listen to his sets a lot now and I DIG.
Love the soulful voices and the groovy housey yumminess. YUMM-O!
Markus: I Hate to say but I totally wasnt paying attention during his set. this is absolutely NOT a knock on him, but he just happened to be on at a time when I saw a million friends and people I hadnt seen in a while and the people and party>>> the music for a bit. Markus was kinda in the background at that time, but it sounded good to me (??) I still love markus, tho, he is truly coming into his game recently!!
Ferry:
I have to say, listening to him twice yesterday is what really did it for me. He had an hour and a half to whore out ferry stuff, then took it to pacha is DESROYED the crowd with "tear-me-a-new-asshole" beats. just f*cking destroyed. I LOVE ferry productions, so add that with classics, and later on, hard, techy (non-ferry) HAMMERING beats, the day was just such a success. I think he knew to bring something differnt to pacha after all the whoring and he delivered!!!! WoWOWOWOWO! It is so awesome to see both sides of ferry. And I LOVED seeing the crowd go off like that. He deffo had the most insane crowd reaction of the weekend, and it was just so fun to see everyone enjoy the guy who has always been my hero <3 <3 <3 . My friends next to me were jumping all over me like mad men (and women), it was hilarious!!
ATB + Guetta: Meh. guetta isnt for me, and ATB I dont really have anything to say about because we were only there for 30 minutes in an area where the sounds was really distorted. Where we were standing I couldnt hear the lyrics?? But i was just there to chat with friends, so I didnt care regardless LOL.
regardless Day one still owned for me
