Question Immersiv - Empyrean [Uplifting Trance @ soundcloud]

Hi guys, thought I'd share with you another track I've been hammering away at since I got some hugely useful tips and feedback on my other one. The beginning of this melody just popped into my head a couple of months ago and since then I've been gradually expanding on it. I really tried to bring out more low-end but without a decent subwoofer its hard to gauge how well I did this lol. Too far? Not too far enough..? Cheers in advance

I havent listened yet because im listening to Exis' track but what DAW do you use to produce?

Posted by novastorm on Sep-13-2009 15:46:

macbook pro with Reason 4.0

Signed or unsigned, you're one of my favorite trance musicians at the moment. This is incredible

The piano sounds mixed better in the earlier version you sent me, but it still comes through. Low-end is lacking once again, but it doesn't really matter, this song focuses so much on the melodies I don't really even notice it.

The low-end and kick mixing in The Summit is perfect, you should do more in that style.

This is sounding damn good. a lil quiet but its got a big and warm sound! You are definitely moving to be on par with Andy Blueman no doubt! I think (one of) your pad(s) needs less upper mid frequencies though.

I cant believe peopel do this sort of stuff in Reason cuz Reason drives me crazy sorta.

oOo man i will listen to this when i get back home from work.

Posted by owien on Sep-15-2009 16:37:

yep top stuff it did get a we bit lost in the breakdown if i was to be really picky but well done if reason was the daw you created this on then woot woot to you.

Posted by TranceLover007 on Sep-15-2009 21:42:

Let just start with this, in the beginning , I thought, this is another OK trance track with good melody, but at 2:40, ohhhhhh men, what a change, like flipping the light switch, different world, different class.

It was a pleasure (grate experience) to listen to this melody.

You score 10 out of 10 big time.

Keep them rolling man.

w0rd dawg. really nice melody, breakdown, pads, and track :P

a tip i have for you is to export the bass alone, view it for amplitude and dynamic consistencies, and automate a fix for it(if u dont understand this its ok because im probably talking shit). Reason user here too, high fiveeeeeeeeeeeee. I would only suggest working on the bass a little more, but maybe thats my preference, so dont trust me. g00dw0rx

really nice! One little things that is a bit anoying is that after the great break it sounds a bit "muddy". The mainrif that is. Other then that, great work!

Posted by zhillmusic on Sep-15-2009 23:09:

Oh man. So nice. PLEASE bring up the level of the claps and the bass at the end of the breakdown. Not because I think it sounds bad, but because I know I could dig it even more with a bass that helps pump out everything that is coming together at the end of the breakdown. Well done. I think Roger Shah might've just found his first track for Music for Balearic people vol. 3

Thanks Ky, yeah the piano may have gotten a little lost amongst the new synths and pads that I've fleshed it out with since then, some more EQing will be in order. The Summit is a big mess atm, I rendered it way too loud! but yeah it does seem to have more low-end presence, i'll try and emulate that.

oh i'm a looong way off Andy Blueman haha but thanks for saying. I think i know which pad you're talking about, its a voice-sounding pad, i suppose i could bring it down a little.

Fair bit of Reason-Hate going on here LOL, i guess its just what i learnt on so I'm used to it now, it's definitely one harsh mistress in the early stages though, good lord.

Thanks matey! Yeah once the main chords start coming in it does morph a fair bit, hopefully its not too abrupt - i've just always been a fan of tracks which don't give away too much in the buildup so that's what i was going for.

Reason Appreciation! there are so few of us.. haha. I gather you're talking about analysing the bass waveform, i might get what you mean by 'automating a fix' if you cite an example? :P And i DO trust the users on here, you're the best sounding board i have! I have an idea for a more dynamic bassline, there's one sidechained synthbass which I'll change to a choppy synthbass, hopefully it will cut through the mix a little better.

Cheers! i will try and make things a little clearer but at the same time I don't like when a main synth is too dry and upfront - gotta make the listener work for it a bit! Haha. I'll see if i can find a better compromise.

Cheers guy! I know what you mean about the claps, I toned them down recently but perhaps a little too much. And the bass at the end of the break, yeah I probably undercompensated because I was concerned that it would clash with the rapidfire kicks that start coming in there -- I'll work with it some more.

Massive thanks to all who took a listen!

Thanks mate - we almost have enough for an Oz Reason Alliance now!

Yeah Thors for the larger synths but also some Malstrom in the buildup and even some Subtractor in there too for the serated bass, i don't discriminate!

Wow... This track really reminds me of Andy Blueman.
The energetic basslines.. The happy melody lines .. etc
And I really like the piano.. It fits in with the track really well , it gives it the 'happy' vibes , which isn't bad at all!

The only thing I dont like is the ride.. I think it's tail is too short , but hey.. Thats most probaly because Im too used to Nitrous Oxide and Fast Distance.. LOL! And you can probaly try adding some uplifting sweeps at 0:51 to 0:57 , to give it some uplifing feeling.

Overally , nice track you have there! and I agree with Nightshift , you are almost on par with Andy Blueman!!

I digg.. man nice job, I got lost in the break

The only instrument that stood out to me was the piano during the break.. it seemed a bit.. dry? I'm not sure it might have just been too loud for me.. I dno..

But all together, very nice track man!

IceCold, LCR - thanks lads!

funny you should say that, I shortened the ride hat as an afterthought to prevent crowding but perhaps I overdid it -- i like a nice long ride too

Also Blueman has come up a few times, I hope i'm not sounding TOO much like him lol.

Lost in the good way I hope? The break didnt go on too long? The piano needs some slight levelling yeah, it is perhaps a bit sharp esp in the breakdown when there's nothing else to tame it down a bit. Thanks for your kind comments!

This track is massive man, something you'd want to play at 6 am for the sunrise when the roof is opening up at Pacha in Ibiza if you get the idea. Really nice sounds and development of the melody.

Contrary to some other comments I actually think the breakdown and the length of the breakdown is perfect. A melody that massive and emotional needs to be drawn out like that and built up slowly and in a powerful way.

I only have 2 suggestions for this: (1) I would have liked if the kick was more bumping and driving. The kick seems to get lost in the mix - I would definitely put it more up front in the mix. (2) The section after the breakdown when the beat comes back it might be cool to follow it up with a few rounds of that melody without the piano on top? For instance at 5:31 take out the piano and don't bring it back until 6:25 when you have it coming back - the piano is awesome but it might create a smooth contrast to what you have going on already. I hope I'm making sense here.

All in all, GREAT job... this track is really damn good!

It's got a very upbeat feel to it. I really enjoy some of your synth elements, they sound rather catchy. Melodically, this is very nice indeed

The only thing I don't think fits is the build up. I don't think it's intense enough for a track like this. Good job, Nova!

Wow, amazing~!!!!! It's all I got to say!
