Serena Williams flips out....

Since there is so much convo on Kanye, why not add another classless act of the day? Serena Williams flips out over a call and essentially is removed from the game. She threatens to kill the umpire who makes the call, and in the end has the crowd in a rage for acting in such a way.

Ruins the efforts and probable win of Kim Clijsters (sp?). Just plain classless!!!

That's probably the most drama in drama in tennis history. Costing a U.S. Open semi-finals. And threatening to kill the line person. I hope she gets kicked out of the Women's Tennis Association along with a hefty fine. If they let her off with just a fine what does it show for the sport itself letting someone threaten an official and get off that easily. I'm sure if it was someone that wasn't as big Serena she would get kicked out. Sean Avery got kicked out of the NHL for saying something less offensive.

^^haha +2 for the Americans!!

We are on a F*CKING ROLL tonight with the people in our own spotlight....im soo (sarcasticly) happy that these people are on our TV, and in a sense, representing us. Losers.

gotta respect the talent and accomplishments of the Williams sisters...but I can't say I'm a fan of their attitudes and lack of humility on so many occassions.

here's her 'formal statement'...which is nothing remotely close to an apology:

quote:
Last night everyone could truly see the passion I have for my job, Williams said in the statement released by her management.

Now that I have had time to gain my composure, I can see that while I dont agree with the unfair line call, in the heat of battle I let my passion and emotion get the better of me and as a result handled the situation poorly. I would like to thank my fans and supporters for understanding that I am human and I look forward to continuing the journey, both professionally and personally, with you all as I move forward and grow from this experience.

now should they be calling that kind of shit at that stage of a grand slam semifinal match? no. it's akin to calling a harmless penalty during overtime of the deciding playoff game in the NHL or a borderline foul in basketball that directly impacts the outcome. at some point, you 'let them play'. some people will disagree though...

meh, whatever. it's not like other champs haven't acted worse (McEnroe and Connors come to mind, lol).

if you listen to the clip (I didn't see it live), it sounds like she says something like 'if you call a foot fault, I'm going to shove this..." as she's holding the ball up at her...but then the camera changes and the rest of what she says is inaudible, but the line judge said that she also said "I will kill you"...? crazy.

whatever it was...a formal apology would have been the classy thing to do.

If tennis was like this every match I'd actually watch it.

That's it? $10,000 fine? She made $350,000 making it in to the semi finals, $10,000 for a fine is letting her off easy.

^^^^
tennis has little precedent for dealing with stuff like this. It's been a long time since any of the players were throwing fits.

Serena and Kanye are made for each other

You guys mention Kanye and Serena, but forgot about Michael Jordan's classless Hall of Fame acceptance too.

Rule of 3 baby!

Federer, what a player.

Posted by MarkT on Sep-14-2009 20:03:

and she's now formally apologized after all...no doubt due to the negative feedback in the press and from fans. a bit late, but at least she apologized.

it was a fair call wasnt it?

Yea those two names are being brough up alot but sorry a woman should carry herself, or at least try to carry herself like a lady. If a guy talks and acts like that hes still a buffoon too but I think it looks far worse when a female does it. I can't think of anything more unattractive then loud girls that talk like truckers in public, spit, etc. Total definition of classless trash. Yea yea yea double standards and all that, I couldn't care less.

But I mean ...

"If I could, I would take this fucking ball and shove it down your fucking throat and kill you."

As the old saying goes ... you can take the girl out of the ghetto ...

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Sep-14-2009 21:22:

lol did she really say that?

Posted by Special K on Sep-14-2009 21:23:

Indeed she did.

indeed, it was. However, even the comissioner stated that calls like that are not really the norm when playing for the final points for the game. They usually let them play unless its a major infraction. It really wasnt either, she was over the line by like an inch, and I can see why she would get upset when she is serving in the final set. That doesnt mean she should act like an idiot, tho!
