COR version: they strapped a 4GB memory card onto a carrier pigeon, and it was significantly faster than if they would have used their Internet connection.

It depends on how many gigabytes you want to transfer, and the distance. For example, if you want to transfer 16 gigabytes to someone in your neighbourhood, I'm sure the pigeon could do a better job. Unless, of course, the number of dogs and pranksters in your block is too high
