Question about Airplane tickets

Once an Airplane ticket has been bought, and the persons name has been put on etc. And say that person cannot fly anymore. Can you change the name on it, say someone elses name on it who would be able to fly instead? I dont know how this works?

I'm already thinking im screwed

call the airline or the company who sold you the ticket, but the policy should be very clear in your itinerary.

it can depends upon the airline, type of ticket and reason you can't fly. you may be able to cancel, reschedule or get a voucher for future use (usually for a fee, of course)...but AFAIK, tickets are non-transferrable.

did you purchase any kind of travel insurance that might cover you?

see that thing its going through work. won two tickets to NYC for me and a guest. So my friend and I were supposed to go, and now he cant go because of a new job. So i dunno if im out a ticket or if there is that possibility of switching the name on the ticket.

havent gotten the tickets yet , but my work has bookd the flights.

They'll change the name for you most likely but you'll have to pay a fee - I have paid $150 previously to change a name on a ticket.

Kinda unfair work would book it.... my first name is different on my passport, than on file at work... this would cause me problems each time.

If they got you an 'unrestricted' ticket, then yes, otherwise, like everyone said, additional fees, unless tagged non-transferable.
