Wmc 2010

Hey im a planner and earlier you plan more options that youve got.

Last week of march like usual?

i wouldnt be able to arrive until thursday of WMC week,so a wednesday night flight arriving thursday morning would work. that still leaves thur,fri,sat.

Of those of you that have gone to wmc, have you done the whole week or have you done something similar where you arrive midweek?

Also since it is mainly a south beach thing, what are some affordable hotels you would you recommend staying at? obviously just need a place to keep my things and sleep.

I have my spring break right after WMC so i'd probably stick around in miami for a few days after WMC to explore the city, catch a heat game etc.

If I go next year, I'm arriving on Tuesday morning. I missed all the good WMC Kick off parties.

it always depends when my spring break is. last year it was the whole week of WMC so i got in tuesday night and stayed until monday. the year before i liked better b/c my spring was like your's omar, the week after. i took that thursday off from work, we already had friday then i stayed in miami until wednesday the next week to recover and hang out with my cousin.

gotta check when my spring break is but i did 6 days and that was almost too much for me, i like getting there wed/thur but always, ALWAYS stay until monday, don't try to leave sunday. i made that mistake only once! had to leave a club after a crazy 3 days and go to the airport, no bueno!

is this your first?

You can go for a few days, but it just won't be the same as a week in Miami. I've done both.

it would be my first Sarah so i want to make it happen in 2010 for sure!

Good to plan early buddy, particularly lodging wise, you save big.

My friends have already reserved the same condo we rented last year

yay, i love virgins
trust me there will be tons of info out there and TA's will help you with questions you have. the florida boards start around december/january with the WMC sub thread with tons of useful info in there and lots of fun back and forths and party listings, what you need, places to eat, places to stay, etc.

miami is my true hometown, was born there and lived there until i was 6 then moved to and grew up in Georgia. love the south and especially south beach
and yes i know, florida really isn't considered the "south"

Unfortunately Im going to pass on WMC in 2010, but planning on burning man and a full moon party in Thailand next year

My first year I took the Tuesday night red-eye and came back Sunday, last time I left Tuesday night red-eye and came back Monday.

You can save a lil bit of money flying into FLL vs. MIA. You can probably get a dirt cheap flight leaving Long Beach to Ft. Lauderdale with Jet Blue.

Lodging: I've learned most South Beach hotels (except the 5 star ones) are pretty roachy. I'd look into places farther north in Miami Beach or in Downtown MIA. You may also want to look into vacation condo rentals. (I hear DT Miami condos are way over built...mostly vacant)

Head in on Wed morning and stay the rest of the week. Wmc is always my best week and my Birthday during that time.

on the facebook page, tentative dates for Ultra are march 26 and 27.....im pretty sure that wont change, so feel free to pencil that in

ya i'd be down for a condo if i hopped on with a group of TA's. I have free nights I can use at the Epic hotel(4.5 star) but I dont want to use them up WMC week when all im looking for is a place to crash and sleep. I wouldnt be opposed to staying there after WMC (Sun-wed)since i would probably do a thur-wed or something along those lines.

Oh and Sarah, I have 2 weeks off for spring break.

so I'd rather have my 1st week off land WMC week and then i dont have to take off any days off from work and could be out there the entire time.

this past year we had a 2 bedroom condo about 5 blocks from Space......since most of ouyr partying was in that area, it worked out perfectly.....and generally speaking, its about half the cost of what the same sized condo would cost you on the beach......looks like about 1500 for the week this year for most places in DT, less if its a studio type deal

ooooooh... that week might just work for me, have always wanted to check out WMC! I stayed pretty cheap in South Beach once...think it was a Best Western or something, nothing extravagant, but no six-legged guests in the room either. I'm sure they'll mark it up 6x for WMC weekend, but will see what I can find out. How long is the drive from FLL to South Beach?

about 30 mins with no traffic

I stayed in the Mimosa from Monday-Monday for $400. Its on 63rd and Collins (about a 5-10 minute drive from SoBe depending on traffic), but the hotel was very nice, luxurious, right on the beach and the staff was great.

It was nice to get away from SoBe at night. I was able to sleep pretty peacefully.

^^^^^^. like the poster above me. i stayed near 63rd and collins and wasnt too far from anything. but we had a rental car. we found our condo on craigslist (vacation rental part) for real cheap. and was a good place. so thats a good place to start too.

be careful about craig's list though, had a friend that rented a condo through someone there last WMC and got screwed out of all his money and still had no place to go, had to rent another place. going through a reputable place might be best. just an fyi


last year we got a great deal at La Flora, on south beach, 13th and collins for 4 nights. i just paid $260 and had 3 roommates and it was a big suite with a king size bed and a lounger that worked as a bed.
although sleeping during WMC is merely a suggestion

i stayed around 54th and colling 2 years ago.....cheap places, but its so out of the way.....DUI is not something im looking forward to!

I stayed at the Eden Roc Renaissance next door to Fountainbleu (42nd and Collins) last year.

Most bus lines that head north on Collins stay on Collins for a while. I'd recommend hoping on the bus for $2 bucks for anyone staying farther north on Collins.

Speaking of WMC...a friend just spotted me in this video...lol

Agreed, ALWAYS be super careful, but if you see any advertisements for the Mimosa for a room at $400 its legit (she posts it every year around late January early Feb).
