I would like to know what your first gig was like...

Did you completely f*ck up, or was it like the best thing you have ever expierenced?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum... I'm a bit sleepy right now...

It was the best thing I ever did!
I gave my best self, spun 5:30 hours without a little mistake!
There were about 200 people, all dancing!
In the end some came to get photos with me (!!!)
It was amazing!

Great feeling to see people enjoying trance...
I played whre my style was unexpected... end it worked great !

For young DJs that are waiting for there first gig... just be cool
and focus on a your track selection... the key to capture the crowd !

My first gig? Let me try and think back that far. Actually, I remember it well. It was back in the disco era. At first I was nervous as hell but it didn't take too long to loosen up and really get into it. Once that I saw the crowd was really having a good time and getting into the music, I got more relaxed and ended up having a blast.

Basically a nightmare in the beginning lol. Not because I sucked or so, but because of another guy.
It was a gig with several dj's. I was anxiously waiting for my turn, wow, the first time I was going to play in front of 500 peepz.
This guy before me was spinning on cd's only (Denon DN2500 mkII, I remember well). Suddenly the playing deck starts to skip, badly. You know, a normal person would kill the track as soon as possible, and change to the other deck. Well not this guy. What does he do? He stops the track. And just starts it over from start again!
The track plays for a certain time and then starts to skip again. You would have thought he got it by now. Well no, he did it two times again.
Was thinking to myself "my god what a noob", when suddenly he grabs me, and puts me behind the decks, voila problem solved! You could have guessed he did this just as the crowd is getting pretty pissed so they start looking at the dj, which concidently me at the moment.

I can assure you, there are better ways to make a first impression!!!

But I think I managed well to recover from the mess. It wasn't my last gig, so...

I've been in a similar situation multiple times where guys (and a girl!) have the ability to decimate vibes, dancefloors, whatever and then it's your turn to pick up the pieces.

I figure it this way, if your good and your on your game, it won't/wouldn't be long before you are onto bigger and better things anyway!

My first gig was horrible too! I wasn't prepared for it but I had had the idea in my head if I didn't do it I'd miss my opportunity. The place was a hole. Everything about it was horrible! As it turned out, the night was over, I'd done okay but I'd rather forget it! I'll spare you the details haha but it's better to lose your virginity sooner rather than later huh!

What if you don't know what to play.
I may be playing at my next school party which the last 2 times has consisted of 3 DJs that all play house, like alot of commercial house too. The crowd was less for the second one.
I just don't know how they will take to tunes being banged out by me. Ususally they get in more of a party mode when more bangin stuff is played than house. Afew I can remember are Basement Jaxx - Wheres your head at
and
Darude - Sandstorm
The crowd seemed to get into it more than the house (which i can tell you after 3 hours of house it is so boring!)
I just hope they don't go "Oh this is shit and walk off"
I think I'd probably play my harder trance forst and see what happens. Stuff like Altitude, Marco V - Godd and 4 Clubbers - Together.

Just look how the crowd reacts. If they start going away on certain tunes, well... you get the message. Just be fast enough to react.

it was at a party from a friend of my. there were around 40 people, almost everybody was Drum'n'Bass fan. but I played some trance and they enjoyed it. I had also to play some DnB, another friend is since a month a DnB-dj, so he asked me to spin some DnBstuff from him. I did it and it's just as simple as you spin trance. so it was really a cool first gig. only in my eyes it was a bad performance from me, but the crowd enjoyed it
dunno if you can name it a real first gig on such a small party, but I'm gonna arrange my own party, which will be bigger and it will only be with trance-fans

Well,my first gig,if you can call that a gig was at a party, but everything went completely wrong...
I drank a bit(that was no problem, but it gave me a hard head) and i let people get me in their personal preferences -BIG mistake!-Needless to say, many were dissapointed by the changes in the music.
Then, the crowd (not many, about 30) came near the speakers and started playing watershots with bottles of beer, and in 20 minutes everything was soaking...that was really crappy..
Anyway,it was a fun night and not considering that the music stopped two times for some seconds and the dissapointed people with the changes in the music saying things, the party was great.
And thank God we didn't blow anything up with that beer(electricity cables were near)!
Anyway, thats my exp,i really hope it gets better next time
