Regardless, I've never understood the whole twitter thing.

I really don't get how this is such a bad idea, unless you're just not into Twitter.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-24-2009 18:33:

i had to delete richie hawtin from everything, because the track updates were more annoying than people who go to star trek conventions.

Posted by Guest on Sep-24-2009 19:06:

Is minus even a relevant label at this point?

Yeah, it does get fucking annoying when he plays every night. Luckily its easy to be turned on/off. The idea is fairly sound though, and it would be nice to have if you were actually there listening to it live. A lot of his ideas are ridiculous, but I don't see why this is in particular such a huge joke.

Posted by keithos27 on Sep-24-2009 19:52:

i dont see it as a joke at all... i think it'd be really cool if it could be applied to all of our favorite djs (i understand most big jocks aren't using solely mp3s/etc)... would make it a lot easier to find out the names of tracks you like.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Sep-24-2009 19:57:

I wish there were no tracklists. At all.

You are so fuckin right.. I miss the days where I could go see a dj and not know anything he played, or where I would have to do a bit of work to find the name of a track. It's all become too easy and very very boring to me.

As for hawtings twitter dj app, I actually find it quite sad that people would want to know every tune a dj plays.

The wonders of information technology: making it easier each day to follow trends and imitate your favorite superstars.

Posted by Seppuku on Sep-24-2009 21:24:

The good news is that if you don't want to know, you have the option to not use it.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-24-2009 21:30:

the thing is richie does not need tracklists because he is richie.

a guy like me needs tracklists to hope that someone clicks download. Viva el internet. It has both positives and negatives. The positive is that i have access to more music than when i started buying records in the 90's. The downside, everyone has the same access

Posted by lenazi on Sep-24-2009 21:31:

and yes, mnus is equivalent to a rick roll without lyrics.

Tracks are never as good when you find out what they are called - fact.

Yes, the one thing I've always wanted to when I'm on the dancefloor is check Twitter every 5 minutes.

Thats a little extreme, I wouldn't be staring at my phone waiting for the next update. would only really check it if I heard a track I had to have. (which would mean Richie Hawtin probably isn't the one playing)

Posted by basilisk on Sep-25-2009 23:59:

Track listings respect the artists who actually write the music that most DJs play. It's all about data transparency.

I haven't had a chance to play with the app but it sounds very cool. Of course, you would really want to open a second Twitter account specifically for this application; it gums up your feed like crazy.

i don't think many people really buy minus releases these days. they're like the abomination of electronic music lately
