How do you connect two monitors to computer?

Hey guys,

I just bought two KRK Rokit G2 5 In Powered studio Monitors that have available 1/4" , TRS, and RCA inputs. How do I go about connecting both monitors to my computer?

Thanks in adv.

Audio Interface.

You need an interface that has line in or TRS inputs/outs. Or a mixer if you just want to monitor, or a mixer and interface if you want to do it all. Or again, just an audio interface like Motu 828 MKII or Presonus, M-Audio stuff if your on tight budget.

Get an audi interface that has those available connections on it. OR- If you want to connect to a soundcard that you have that I assume only has 1/8 in minijack then you need to go to radio shack and buy adapters.

a "Y" joint where the 2 at the top are female rca's, the bottom is a 1/8 in male minijack. You can plug that into a computers onboard sound card.(need rca cables too)

Thanks!

I ended up buying a mic output to two xlr's.

mic output?

did u use the computers 1/8" stereo minijack output and got a converter from that to xlr? didnt know that existed really, url?

People really need to read more before they go out and buy gear

Not the end of the world though and easily fixed. You'll need an audio interface. Sometime like the PreSouns Firebox is a great AI for anyone starting out.

Why the mic output though? I'm confused.

a mic can never be a output anyway a mic is a source

Hence why I'm confused

My bad!

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.a...tingid=43794616

It looks kind of like that but of course its way longer and it doesn't look like a cheap mini stereo. Bought it at Sam Ash , the guy that works there sold it to me and told me it was Mic to 2 XLR y-Cables.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Sep-26-2009 16:27:

yeah that seems to work. only problem is that you wont get the benefit of XLR using the jack output on the laptop as its not balanced. u would want to invest in a USB soundcard soon with balanced outputs. Normaly internal laptop soundcards are really bad sounding. atleast if ur planning on making music with those monitors they deserve a good soundcard.

A USB Soundcard? What about an Audio Interface ? Would that provide balanced outputs? Or am I better off just getting the USB Soundcard? It's a gift...I don't produce so I don't know much about this.

You will not be able to hear a difference between a balanced and an unbalanced cable.

probably but u might avoid noise from the computer etc etc.

to explain abit audio interface and soundcard is the same. if u are using a laptop u need it to be USB (or firewire) beacuse its not possible to change internal soundcards on laptops. if u have a big home PC desktop kind of thing u can get pretty decent soundcards to put inside it but why not just go USB anyway?

it all depends on if u want better sound or not. i know people who dont produce but are really focused listeners, and therefore gets good soundcards.

example of a usb soundcard at 130USD:

Yes. But as I said. He will not hear any difference between balanced and unbalanced cables. The noise will still be there if he uses a shitty internal soundcard, because its a) a shitty soundcard and b) internal. No cables will help here.

indeeed. but thats not a reason for not getting a soundcard and then getting balanced cables.

Just buy an ESI JULI@

I have one that I've put up (no, I won't sell it) now that I have my Saffire Pro 40 but before that I used the JULI@ and it is perfect for what you want to do.
